Would the 512MB GeForce 8600 GT 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Low Profile Ready Video Card play COD 4 well?

I have a dell 530s with a 1.6 ghz duo core processor, 250gb hard drive, and 2 gb of Ram. I was wondering if i put this video card in my computer (already checked compatibility) if Call of Duty 4 would run well, and what settings i could put on. Thanks!|||With a low resolution on medium or low.

I am trying to get new video card...but am not sure if I should get one thats says PCI EXRESS OR PCI E X16?

here are my comp specs....

The ECS MCP61SM-GM mATX motherboard features the following.

•Supports socket 940 for AMD® Athlon™ 64 FX processors

•Supports HyperTransport™ up to 2000 MT/s

•NVIDIA Chipset: MCP61S

•Two 240-pin DDR2 DIMM slots

•Four add-in card slots:

•One PCI Express ×16

•One PCI Express ×1

•Two PCI conventional

•Integrated Realtek High Definition Audio

•Integrated 10/100 Ethernet LAN

•Two Serial ATA (SATA) connectors

•Four external USB 2.0 ports with two additional internal headers providing eight possible USB 2.0 ports|||PCI E stands for PCI Express, and they both run at x16 bus speeds so any card that says, PCI E, PCI-e, PCI express, ect. will work in your computer.

EDIT: PCI-E 2.0 is backwards compatible with PCI-E x16|||Most video cards are PCI Express x16, so they most likely are the same.|||the latest video cards are PCI Express X16

What is the difference between PCI Express 2.1 x16 and PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics card?

Im not super amazing at computers, but I was curious whats the difference was. I'm looking at buying a new computer, but the one I'm looking at says the card included with it is PCI Express 2.1 x16. However the one I currently have in my computer I know is a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot video card.|||PCIe 2.1 runs at the same speed as 2.0, but has several "beta features" (for lack of better words) to be included in PCIe 3.0.

Can I use a PCI 2.0 x16 Video Card on a PCI x16 slot ?

Is it Possible to do that ?|||PCI-E is backwards and forwards compatible

PCI-E 3.0 x16 = PCI-E 2.0 x32 = PCI-E 1.0-1.1 x64

PCI-E 3..0 x8 = PCI-E 2.0 x16 = PCI-E 1.0-1.1 x32

Video cards cards now are just now getting to a point where they can saturate the PCI-E 2.0 x8 bandwidth, which would mean PCI-E 1.0-1.1 PCI-E x16 is fully maxed|||Yes.

The only difference is that the bandwith will be low...

Meaning the graphics card won't work efficiently 100%

Will These Card Work On My Pc EVGA nVidia GeForce GT 220 1 GB DDR3 DVI/HDMI PCI-Express Video Card 01G-P3-1226?

(2/2) PCI-E x1 slots|||To cut a long story short, you have a PCI Express x16 slot so yes it will, as will any card designed for that slot - so long as your PSU is good enough.

Edit: Not that it'll do you much good with such a useless processor. Perhaps you should find out what other chip your computer can take instead. Early LGA775 boards may only take a Pentium 4, Pentium HT or Pentium D. Later ones can take up to a Core2Quad Extreme - find out what yours can take. Socket LGA775 motherboards are cheap, you can get one that'll take any Core2 chip for £30/$45 but would have to reinstall Windows.

Edit: You have no chance of running those games on more than the lowest settings, if at all with that processor, whatever card you put in it.

PCIE x16 mobo compatible with PCIE 2.0 video card?

I've googled this issue a bit and got different answers. Will a Gigabyte M68M-S2P motherboard with a specified PCI Express x16 video slot be compatible with a GTX550 Ti 1 GB GDDR5 video card with a PCI Express 2.0 slot without performance loss?|||@ braincruser

You don't know a lot about how to talk to people, do you?

Do you feel more knowledgeable and/or powerful having put someone else down?

You are nothing special.

To the asker: Yes, your GPU will work fine with that mobo. There will be no loss in performance.

I have two 6970's hooked up to my x16, which splits into dual x8, and there is still no performance loss. You are more than fine.|||Your board has the PCIe x16 slot . Though an older board it still works. the 1.1, 2.0, 2.1 only refer to the transfer attainable rate which for the most part does not effect the performance of the card so your 550Ti will work fine. Of course you need enough ram and a good CPU to keep up with the cards ability and of course a PSU with 6 pin connector capable of driving it.|||you dont know a lot about computers do you?

pciexpress x16 means the slot is 16 lanes wide.

pci express 2.0 means the slot is of type 2.0

to put them together

PCIE x16 2.0 thats the slot that motherboard have and the graphic card uses....the same one.

Will a PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card run on a PCI-Express 1.0a compliant slot?

I've heard that in PCI-Express 1.1 and 1.0 (?) slots that it was okay, but I heard it wasn't okay with PCI-Express 1.0a|||There are a few known compatibility issues, but in general it will work. The two most common issues are with slots that are internally wired as x4 and with graphics cards that draw more power from the PCIe slot than 1.0a motherboards are required to be able to supply.

Update: I understood that you mean x16 slots. Not all x16 slots are internally wired as x16.|||Nope. Different size connectors. You're trying to fit a big plug into a little hole basically, and it just wont fit.

Best video card for PCIE x16?

My mobo box says my slot is a PCI express x16. I currently have a ati radeon x800 and i wish to upgrade. what is the best video card i can have for those specs?

PS. i have a 460 W power supply, will i need to get a more powerful one?|||Well that power supply is probably enough for most cards with the exception of the dual cards (HD 3870x2 and 9800GX2).

The very best card available is probably the GeForce 9800GTX at this time. That said, I don't recommend it, as it is about 5% faster than cards $100 cheaper.

A card that is right arround the performance of the 9800GTX is the GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb 256-bit (G92) core:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

I think you will have enough power unless the rest of your system is really a power hungry monster.

For a jump down of about 15% in performance, the GeForce 9600 GT 512mb 256-bit. This card uses way less power is is also much cheaper ($125):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Even less expensive than that (with again low power requirements) is the Radeon HD 3850 with free steam black box for $110: Maybe 10% slower than the 9600GT

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If you really need to cheap out, the 8800GS is similar to the HD 3850, but has no blackbox, this takes a lil more power, but still not that much:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

If all that is too expensive for you, you can drop to an 8600GT OC which is like 50% of the HD 3850:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Just to give you an idea of performance, the HD 3850 will max Unreal 3 games @ like 30-50fps ave. Personally I would check if you've got enough power for the 8800 GTS 512mb with 100% load and 20% aging http://extreme.outervision.com/psucalcul…

If you can't use that, get the 9600GT. If you want the black box, get the 3850. Otherwise, cheap out progressively as described if you're short on cash.

PNY Geforce 9800GT 9800 GT GDDR3 1GB PCIe x16 Video Card work on an Acer Aspire M1100?

Assuming that I also buy a A-Power 500W Watt ATX Power Supply Dual Fan to run it on my computer, as I would like to replace the outdated Radeon HD X1200 on my computer...

If not, what video card would you recommend under $100 on a PCI-E x16 slot?|||TBH it wouldn't even be worth it for a PCI-E x16 1.0 slot. You might as well get a new Motherboard that supports your CPU and buy a nicer gfx card.... Otherwise your'e limited to very weak graphics card that won't do much with upcoming games.|||It will work, you just won't be able to use all of the graphics card's capabilities because it's a PCI-E 2.0 x16, but it will be able to run no problem assuming you get the power supply.

By the way, you want to get this card, it's far more powerful and only $40

http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/S…|||Don't buy that power supply.

Get this one.

I'm pretty sure that power supply has the PCIE power connecter for the card.

And this card.

I want to upgrade my video card to a GeForce 9600GT SSC 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI?

I have a Dell Dimension 9100 desktop will this card be fully functional in my desktop?|||Hi, I went ahead and checked out your computer specs from here (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy… What you needed is a PCI Express x16 slot which your computer DOES have. However, the 9600GT SSC edition recommends that you have a 400 watt power supply inside your computer. The specs sheet shows that your desktop only have a 375 watt power supply. Now if you decide to put the video card in anyway, it will function until you start running very demanding games. When your video card starts demanding more power your power supply can give it, your computer will automatically shut down. So I'd recommend you get a new power supply along with that card. Here's a really good one in case your looking for one (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

What's a decent PCI Express x16 or x8 video card that doesn't need to be connected to the power supply?

Right now I have an NVIDIA 7300 LE, and it has so-so performance. I'd like a video card that can play Team Fortress 2 at fairly high settings, but I have a low-wattage power supply. If you have an idea of any decent video cards that don't need to connect to the power supply, and are below $50-$70, please post. Thanks :)|||I had one of those on a PC myself once .... it's about the weakest PCIe video card ever made.

I upgraded it with an 8500GT & the difference in performance was like night & day. Mind you, the 8500 is not really a "gamer's" card but without upgrading your PSU your options are limited.

This EVGA 9500GT uses 512MB of DDR3 ram & is available for $60 (no connection to PSU needed):

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

How many watts is your PSU .... 350W would do it for this card.

regards,

Philip T|||Well the 9400 GT is probably the highest you can go .

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

No 6 pin connector visible.|||A 4670 would probably be the fastest without a power connector.

It is roughly 1.5 times faster than a 9500 GT: http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.a…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Is a PCI express 2.0 video card backward compatible with a PCI express x16 motherboard?

Will an 8800 gts pci express 2.0 card word on my m2n-sli deluxe asus motherboard? Says it supports pci express x 16 so is 2.o backwards compatible?|||All of the new graphics cards that support PCIe 2.0 are backward compatible with motherboards that support only PCIe 1.1. BOTH Pcie 2.0 and 1.1 standards USE the x16 PCIe slot.

Actually the new cards would hardly be slowed down by the PCIe 1.1 slot. PCIe 2.0 has a VERY WIDE bandwidth that could hardly be utilized by most single cards. It is the dual or quad GPU set up that would benefit most from PCIe 2.0.|||In short Yes, but at half the bandwidth of 2.0.|||Yes it is backwards compatible. It just won't work as fast as the pci-e 2.0. I have a ATI Radeon 3850 which is pci express 2.0 and it runs on my pci express x16 very well. Good Luck with the video card.|||yes it will work|||Yes, they built the new cards with backwards compatibilty so we don't all have to run out and buy new motherboards too just to use the new cards. It was really smart on their part, with how expensive cards are getting we all don't want to have to drop another couple hundred dollars on a good, new motherboard at the same time just to use a new card.|||backward compatible runs 2.0 cards at half the bandwidth.

Is there a good video card for me?

I have a Gateway GT5694 and I want to know any video cards that are better than the ATI Radeon HD 3200 Integrated Card. The PC has 1 - PCI-E x16, 0 - PCI-E x1 & 1 - PCI. Any cards better than this one that work would be awesome. Also the power supply is 300 watts, Windows XP SP3 (I'm getting Windows 7 soon), and 3 GB RAM.|||With that power supply, a Radeon 6670 is the best you'll do. Anything more and you'll need to upgrade the PSU as well.|||5670 at $75 , 6670 at $100

Which Video Card is better for playing WoW?

I'm buying a new PC and I was wondering which video card was better, they both cost almost exactly the same. The ATI Radeon HD 3850 512mb PCI-Express x16 or the NVIDIA GeForce 9400GT 1gb w/ DVI + TV Out Video.|||If you have to choose, I would go with the 9400 GT. I played WoW with that card...ran quite smooth. pulled 60 frames when Burning Crusade premiered no problem.|||I prefer Nvidia and I think the 9400GT is a better card. I would pick that one.

Also, bear in mind that WoW is a 4 year old game that doesn't require that high end of a video card. The expansion upped the graphics quite a bit but even so, I'm running it on max settings w/ an 8800GTS, which is an older card. No problems. Great framerates.

The 9400 will serve you well.|||If you had to choose go with the 9400 GT, but i wouldn't suggest that. The 9600 GT will play WoW easily on max settings, plus it will play most new games at medium settings. Here's a chart that will let you compare the nvidia graphics cards http://www.techarp.com/showarticle.aspx?…

For best pricing go to newegg.com, here's a good deal http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||I would not buy ether. your looking for a budget card

get the 9600 nvidia or the ati 4670 the two you have chosen is not for that type of game.|||DEFINETLEY THE NVIDIA GRAPHIC CARD BECAUSE ITS BUILD FOR GAMING WHILE ATI IS BUILD FOR GRAPHIC DESIGN|||as far as i know there is no mobo supporting for both. so u have to go with ur motherbord ATI or Nvidia chipset , whichever ur motherboard support

What is the best video card to play games like Flight Simulator X?

I am building my new PC and I still, after 2 months, can't decide on a good video card.

I plan on playing alot of Flight Simulator X and Age of Empires.

I would prefer an ATI chipset but if there is a better Nvidia card...:

GDDR3 or GDDR5 memory, 256-bit memoy interface or better, 512MB, PCI Express 2.0 X16, and under or around $200.

Thanks!|||I recommend you take a look at Tom's Hardware: Best Graphics Cards For The Money: November '09 at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best… The retest and reissue the list about every month. This month, in the $140-$200 range, they recommend one these three at $155: Radeon HD 4870 1GB, GeForce GTX 260 (Core 216) and Radeon HD 5770 or for $190, the Radeon HD 4890. (I don't recall ever seeing a GTX 260 for $155, but I guess they found one. I see $190 for those, too.) The table at http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/gamin… will give you some idea of the differences you could expect.

For a dell dimensions 4600, can i buy a pci 2.0 card for a pci slot? I also have no clue if it is x8 or x16.?

I'm confused, i want to play fast games on steam. I have an old graphics card in an agp slot. There is still a pci sloot but i have no clue if it is x8 or x16. I think it is an x16 due to the size. I know because of the two different slots side by side i cant buy a dual slot video card. My first question is can i buy a graphics card from NVIDIA that needs a 2.0 slot in my pci slot. I also have a computer that can only power the card to 300w only. I think its the minimum but a few on NVIDIA's website still come up. I also dont know if i should go with ATI or if it will even work! Science is it from AMD and I have Intel. And i also don't know where i can put a wireless internet card after this because I still need one. In the AGP slot, no clue.

I guess my questions are:

Is my PCI slot a x8 or x16

Will a graphics card from NVIDIA work in the pci slot if it needs PCI 2.0

Can i put a wireless card in the APG slot

How big can the card be

Do i need to stick with an agp card

It the mother board just not as modern

I REALLY NEED HELP!! ITS A DELL DIMENTIONS 4600 IN A MINI TOWER CASE, !!!!!

But i really really realllly want to know what is the best card i can get from NVIDIA that is below $100 if it is a 2.0 and will work in the normal slot that is a x16. If it does work

PLEASE HELP|||There is a difference between PCI and PCI-E (Express), they are two different slots and cards that fit in one type of slot will not fit in the other

Your computer does *not* have PCI-E slots. It has the old PCI slots.

You cannot use modern PCI-E video cards in your computer.

You can use AGP cards, but they are rare and anything you find will be quite slow by modern standards

If you have a mini tower it will further complicate things as you may need a low-profile AGP card, I don't think there are any still on the market.|||No you moron

Go look up your computer

I spent 10 seconds online and found it|||The video card is probably PCI-express 2.0 X16, which is completely different from PCI (there's no such thing as X8 or X16 for regular PCI slots). If your computer has an AGP slot, it won't have PCI-express slots.

No, you can't put a wireless card in the AGP slot, it's only for graphics, and yes, you'll have to stick with an AGP card then or get a new motherboard (or computer). Here are some AGP video cards, though they're very low end:

Is the XFX PVT88PYDF4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Ready Video Card any good?

I'm building a computer for the first time, and I was wondering if this graphics card was passable. If not, what do you recommend?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000XQHBEE/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top|||If you're on a budget, the 8800GT has one of the best price-performance ratios around. So it's passable, but there are far better video cards out there.

If money is not a concern, I recommend getting a Radeon 4870 or a GeForce GTX 260 (280 if you really want to burn that much money), these are way better than the 8800GT, plus the 4870 is priced really, really cheap and competitively.|||Yes, it's "passable".|||radeon 4850 is $199 and will kill the 8800gt. the 9800gtx will also kill it @ $199. Its a great card, but has just been superceded by these two models.

REally depends how much you want to spend. There are cheaper places to get it than from amazon.

I have this video card installed in my computer and I connected it to my tv using HDMI cable but I dont hear any sound coming out of my tv, how can I know if this video card can carry sound through the HDMI cable?|||make sure drivers installed correctly.

need the sound card drivers installed as the graphics card will have onboard sound card im not 100% sure the 250 does though im not up to speed with nvidea cards as much but it should just be a case of installing latest drivers and possible clicking a tick box in the nvidea suite|||thats because its only hooked up to your video card, you need to have a hookup from your sound card to your tv

Installing an AGP video card in a PCI x16 expansion slot?

I have a dell Inspiron 530 with a PCI x16 164 pin expansion slot.

Is it possible to install a NVIDIA GeForce 6200 512MB DDR2 AGP 8X card in that slot?|||Absolutely not, totally different slots. what you can do is get yourself a cheap pci-express videocard and install it in that slot.|||no.

Is this ATI Radeon HD 3450 512MB GDDR2 PCI-Express x16 DVI+HDMI+VGA Desktop Video Graphics Card compatible?

Is this ATI Radeon HD 3450 512MB GDDR2 PCI-Express x16 DVI+HDMI+VGA Desktop Video Graphics Card Compatible with Windows Vista Ultimate? Please Be Sure.|||yes its compatiable with both windows vista and windows seven ... and it supports full 3d acceleration on both operating systems and supports transparency themes ...|||Yes it is most definitely compatible.

If you check AMD's website for product specs it specifically mentions vista in the large red box, second last point that begins with "Runs Cool and Quiet" check here:

http://www.amd.com/US/PRODUCTS/DESKTOP/G…

they also provide drivers for vista in both 32 bit and 64 bit.|||Yes it is....You can use on xp,vista, windows 7 and so on......Main thing to make sure of is if your pc is compatible with the 3450.....you need a PCIe x16 slot on your motherboard and at least a 250w or higher power supply to run it.....

Scott|||Yes it is. Any of the HD series is compatible. Personally I would go fo the 1 GB 4850 myself. It will work on both pci-express 2.0 and 16x|||I Had a ATI 3450 512 mb too. but i have Vista home premium. it worked but now i have a nvidia 9600 GT 1gb. so premium is not that far from ultimate so it sould work. escpecialy when intergaretd grapghics are always low and some computers come with ultamite.|||well to put it mildly the graphics card works with video drivers

now are the drivers supported my microsoft you will need to go to your ati site and see if the cards

video drivers are supported

What's the point of the PCI-E X1 slot (NOT THE X16). Do any cards even use it? or does it just take up space?

Is there anything useful that uses the PCI-E x1 slot (I know the X16 is for video cards and such), or is it just hogging valuable space on my motherboard?|||Thats one of the most important slots for HTPCs due to use of tv tuner card :P|||sound cards, nics, and some graphics cards use the pci slots.|||well obviously it does have a reason, some sound cards and peripheral cards use it

What is the best video card my system can handle?

My video card seems to be the bottleneck in my system and I want to replace it with a newer card. My motherboard only has a PCI-e x16 1.0 slot so I don't know how powerful I can go and still utilize the whole card. I also have a 500 watt power supply. I have a PNY 240gt. I'd like to know how new and how powerful I can go with a new video card. I appreciate any suggestions.|||You can go with an HD 6950, which is a PCIe 2.0 device but will work with a 1.0 motherboard. I believe a 500W PSU should do fine for a 6950.

The difference in bandwidth isn't enough to show anyway. I don't think any GPU right now is limited by the bandwidth of a 1.0 PCIe motherboard...

FYI, Nvidia PCIe 2.0 cards have trouble working with 1.0 or 1.1 motherboards...you may be able to flash the cards' BIOS, however AMD cards work with no problems from what I've seen...|||i agree with R though i would upgrade motherboards cause a pci-e 1.0 is goin to cause tons of problems and you'd only preform slightly better than a Geforce 9800GT with a pci-e 2.0

Is my mother board(asus p5kpl-am epu) suited with this pci video card?

Palit GeForce 8400GS (HDMI) 512MB DDR2 NVidia PCI E Graphics Card Price – Rs.1715

Memory Size 512MB

Memory Type GDDR2

GPU GeForce 8400 GS

Is PCI Express x16 expansion slot compatible with a PCI Express 2.0 x16 card?

i want to get this video card:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130509

for this PC that i have:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883103221

the card is PCI Express 2.0 x16, does this mean it will not work with the PCI Express x16 expansion port on the motherboard?

please let me know... the video card is a great deal so i want to buy it asap if it will work. thanks|||I second that, yes it is backward compatible, and with that card you will see absolutely no difference in the speed. The 2.0 interface was to curve a possible bottleneck that was appearing the the late 4 series ATI cards and the late 200 series Nvidia Cards, with the card you are buying you won't be close to the bandwidth cap.|||"PCI Express x16" is actually 1.1

1.1 is backward compatible with 2.0

so the answer is yes

Will a pci express x16 card work in PCI Express 2.0 x16?

I have a 7900 gs ko and i want to buy a new motherboard. I am looking at the evga 780i sli atx, now will my video card work in the PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots??|||Yes it will. A motherboard with a PCI-E 2.0 slot will take a PCI-E 1.0 or 1.1 video card. The difference between the two is the transmit rate, the 2.0 can transmit 16 GByte/s in each direction where 1.1 can only do half that. Your card will not speed up, but the slot will demote itself to 1.1 speeds.

Hope that helps.|||well i was asking something like this not long ago but im pretty sure it will because the big companys like evga no its stupid to make a motherboard like that and it will only surpport pcie 2.0 cards nothing else. i would think it will work but dont take my answer 100%........ but ino what the biggest wastes of money in the history of computers are if any1 would like to know ask me and ill tell you.........|||no

How much faster will a higher end video card perform if the motherboard has a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot?

As opposed to a basic 1.0 (or 1.1)? Is it a major difference percentage wise?|||none. The only card which can forseeably use ALL the throughput of even a PCIE 1.0 slot is the upcoming Nvidia GT 300.|||No,not noticeably faster, kind of like a minor processor upgrade.|||http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

Look down at the section entitled "SPEED".|||the difference in bandwidth between 1.0 and 2.0 looks like a lot but its really not.....you would never notice the difference in real world apps....benchmarks may show the difference but thats about it.....

In PCIe 1.x , each lane carries 250 MB/s. PCIe 2.0, released in late 2007, adds a Gen2-signalling mode, doubling the rate to 500 MB/s. PCIe 3.0, currently in development (for release around 2010), will add a Gen3-signalling mode, at 1 GB/s

Scott|||Not significantly faster; you might lose a few frames here and there, but it's not significant at all.

Is HP Pavilion PC a6200n compatible with a GeForce 8600 GT 1 GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express X16 HDCP video card?

Is HP Pavilion PC a6200n compatible with a GeForce 8600 GT 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express X16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported video card? From what I understand the computer only has a 250 watt power supply. Is that accurate??? It seems low. Most of this cards require at list 350 wats? Does that mean that this won't work? |||You'll just need to upgrade the power supply. Most non-gaming PCs come with a pretty weak stock power supply (same goes for the heatsink and cooling fans). They basically give you enough headroom to add an extra hard drive or two and maybe another optical drive but that's about it.

Basically just buy a new power supply, disconnect your old one, install your new one, install your new graphics card, and reconnect everything. I'd go with a 450 - 500W PSU if you're going to stick with that card, or a 700 - 800W one if you're going to upgrade the card again later or plan on adding a 2nd one for SLI.

Can i connect a PCI Express x16 video card to a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot on my Motherboard?

i have a slot in my motherboard named PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot. but i bought a video card with PCI Express x16. can i attach this card to PCI express 2.0 x16 slot?......or i need any other slots?(i dont have any slots that named "PCI Express x16 slot").|||PCIe 1.0/1.1 and PCIe 2.0 use the same x16 PCIe SLOT. It is just that PCIe 2.0 slot has higher bandwidth (2x) and higher wattage rating (2x) than PCIe 1.0/1.1. All PCIe graphics cards will work on all those slots.

It is just the high-end, multi-GPU cards that get bottlenecked by PCIe 1.0/1.1 slots that's why there's the need for the high bandwidth of PCIe 2.0.|||Yes, you can. The "2.0" is just the version.

Video Card Question about bridging using pci x1 to pci x16?

I have a video card that has the crossfire system where I can bridge 2 cards together my question is my card goes in the pci x16 slot if I purchaed the same card but in pci x1 slot will they still work properly together?|||Of course not. If that motherboard supported Crossfire, you'd have 2-4 PCI-Express (v1/v2) that are x16 size! Since you're thinking of this hokey setup, that means it doesn't and you can't.

Why is the pci-e x16 slot on some motherboards pushed away from the back?

im looking for some motherboards and every single 1 has its pci-e x16 slot pushed back? why is this and will my video card fit?|||The ATX specification states that all the PCI-E slots have to be pushed back slightly further than the pci sockets, thats the ATX standard, otherwise it wouldn't line up with the case.....

All ATX board are the same....they fit atx cases...

Does a video card with a pci_e2.0 port have to go into the second pci_e slot?

i want a graphics card that has a pci_e2.0 x16 port. But the only x16 slot i have is the first pci_e slot. Will it work?|||Nope. You MIGHT have two PCI x16 slots (for if you want to run SLI/Crossfire) but most only have one (the first). The first is guaranteed to work the best (as long as the board supports PCIe). Additional ones are bonus but purely optional depending on the model. Either way, there definitely wouldn't be any advantage of putting it into the second over the first if you indeed have two - and it likely is the much slower PCI anyways rather than additional PCIe.|||No, PCIe 2.0 is a VERSION of that slot (faster than 1.0 and 1.1)...

You generally want to put your video card into the highest slot it will fit.

Which sounds like would be slot 1 for you.|||No. It can go into the first slot. The first slot is usually the less restrictive slot. The second, 3rd or 4th pci_e2.0 slots are usually slower anyways.|||go back where you bought and explain to them they will give the answer and exchange the card sorry I couldn't help but that what I would do

Should i buy the Evga geforce 9400 gt video card pci?

128 MB of RAM

DirectX 8.0 or higher (included on CD) (must have compatible sound card)

16 MB VRAM 3D graphics card compatible with DirectX 8.0

1 GB hard drive space

4X CD-ROM

Internet/network with TCP/IP connection at 28.8 kbit/s

you meet the minimum requirements for the video card(ram anyway) but i really don't think it will play well at all....low settings with that card and it also depends on on the rest of your hardware being up to spec.....

the 70.00 you spend on the pci card you could get a motherboard with a PCIe slot...the performance is like night an day and add a PCIe video card......jmho.....

Would a PCI-E 2.0 card work in a PCI-E x16 slot?

I'm thinking of exchanging a video card (PCI-E x16) with a PCI-E 2.0 x16 card, but here's the thing. My motherboard's PCI-E slot is only 1.0 (x16). Would the new video card work?|||Yes, it will work.

PCI-E 2.0 is designed to be backwards-compatible with PCI-E x16. This means that a video card that is designed for PCI-E 2.0 can also work in a PCI-E x16 slot. Also, a card that is designed to work in a PCI-E x16 slot can also work in a PCI-E 2.0 slot.

I hope this helps!

Will a PCI express 2.0 video card work in other PCI slots?

I only have regular PCI slots, PCI express x1 and PCI x16 slot in my computer and I was wondering if a PCI express 2.0 video card would work in my computer. Thank you!|||Hi,

Yes it will work but only as well as a PCI-e version1 but I don't believe the difference is that great.

The version 2 is backwardly compatible with the earlier version.

See here :-

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express…

Arnak|||Yes it will. A PCI Express 2.0 x16 card will work in a PCI Express x16 slot. The 2.0 specification allows it to be backward compatible with a standard (1.0) x16 slot.

" Upgraded in 2007, PCI Express 2.0 doubled the data transfer rate over its predecessor for a transfer rate of up to 16 gigabytes per second (x16 PCIe channel). Providing backwards compatibility with version 1.0, PCI Express 2.0 provides:

PCI software compatibility

Scalable performance

High-bandwidth, low pin-count implementations

Cost effective silicon component designs

Low overhead, low latency data transfers

Maximized interconnect efficiency "

http://www.intel.com/technology/pciexpre…|||im pretty sure that it will if the card has backwards compatibility.

it will just run at regular pci 1.0 speeds

if i were you i would post another question asking if that specific video card has backwards compatibility to 1.0

:-)|||no, but if your card has backward support the it may be.

How much is an okay video card for pcie x16 and what dose pcie 2.0 mean?

so i was wonder how much money do i have to pay in order to get an okay video card. is 59$ video okay?and also what is pcie 2.0 bus slot is it X16 or X8?(ex:•PCI Express 2.0 )|||A $60 graphics card is ok, but I wouldn't suggest it for any kind of gaming. PCIe 2.0 is an improvement basically of the first PCIe. a PCIe card will work with a PCIe 2.0 expansion slot. But I would suggest shelling out more money for a graphics card. $80 to $120 should get you a decent to fairly good one. You can go to a Staples and buy a graphics card from there. I bought an Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT with 1GB video ram for about $100 and it's served me well since.|||Radeon HD 4650. It's a low level card that will allow you to play most games. Around $50 at newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…

If your computer was made after 2005, it most likely has a PCI Express x16 slot. The 2.0, as in PCI Express 2.0 x16, is a data transfer rate improvement that basically doubles the amount of data that can be passed through each lane of the PCI Express bus. It's too technical to explain here. If it says that your motherboard uses PCI Express 2.0, it's most likely referring to a PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot.|||Generally any pci-e graphics card will work if you have a pci-e slot, depends on what your gonna run on your computer general mmo games like voyage century(vc.igg.com)run fine on my NVIDIA gt 220 graphics card for 78 dollars

Does a video card that has PCI express 2.0 x16 need a motherboard with the same or can it be used with pci x16

I would like to purchase one of the new nvidias 9600s and in its specifications it says pci express 2.0 x16. I just want to know if it will work with a motherboard that just has pci express x16.|||Yes, it will work perfectly. As a previous poster mentioned, it is completely backwards compatible. My HD 3870 is also PCIe 2.0, and it is working just fine on my PCIe X16 motherboard. No performance issues at all.

EDIT: I'll repeat, there is no performance issues at all, and none that I have ever heard of. It was designed to be FULLY backwards compatible, so you shouldn't have any worries whatsoever.|||i heard that one of the users here said that there would and/or could be performance issuse if so how much would be the issue be, 10% 5% 15%??? could u guess.|||PCI Express 2.0 x16 is backwards compatible with PCI Express x16, but from what I've read you won't achieve the same performance using it in a PCI Express 16 slot.|||yes pci express works with pci express only the 2.0 is maybe an upgrade just like the usb 1.0 now they have 2.0 that performs faster so the video card you have will work it will just perform alot faster

If my motherboard supports pci express x16 1.0, would a pci e x16 2.0 still work with it?

I wanted to know if I could buy a video card with an interface of pci express x16 2.0 with a motherboard that has an interface of pci express x16 1.0. Thanks.|||Yes it will with no problems it's all backward compatible.components.

Have fun|||ye it will work

2. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814122205|||Both are terrible cards. Horribly outdated, laughably weak, and slow.

That said, the 8400GS is the more powerful card.

The clock does not matter as much as the processing capacity of the GPU, which the 8400GS has much more of than the 6200TD.

I wouldn't get either. If you want a lower midrange card, the best deal right now is the ATI HD5750. Cheap, but many more times powerful and MUCH faster than the 8400GS.|||I agree with joe, most games would not even run on those. I also recommend the 5750 or a 5770.

How to know what graphics/video card will fit in your tower?

also if you know any cheap and other cards that are really good let me know.

and thanks in advance|||The 9600GSO is probably the best performing card out of the three you listed because it is based on the G92 core (like the 9800GT), but you should really look into the version of the card that has more memory (768MB). The 9600GT is second best - the 8800GTS is rather castrated with only 320MB of memory, especially if you want to turn on AA and AF.

A PCI-e 2.0 card is backward compatible with PCI-e 1.0 and will work fine in your motherboard.|||Almost every video card is pci express x16 compatible if it isnt then it isnt going to be a good card.|||I would recommend the 9600GT or the 8800GTS in that order. I have long been leary of repaired products. Is your PS SLI Rated? If not I would recomend you upgrade as many cheap PSUs are over-rated and give a dirty power when stressed which causes other components to fail.

Is the GeForce 8600 GT 512MB PCI-E x16 Video Card graphic card good for really good graphics?

i have a sony vaio that has a geforce 5200 video card and i want a new one to play new games with good graphics is this card good enough or do the new games need a better one? but i dont want ne of ur answer to tell me about a ****** $1000 graphic card thats better i want something thats about $200 the geforce 8600 is bout $160 so just lemme no if its good enuff for a game like war in conflict to play with really good graphics (i dont want it to work at minimum graphics)|||8600GT is a decent DX10 mainstream card. It is a very significant upgrade to your outdated Geforce 5200 and could play many games at medium settings but NOT high settings.

Just BE SURE that you have a x16 PCIe slot in your Vaio. The card is NOT compatible with PCI or AGP slot.|||For a Sony Vaio, that card should be fine. It won't be spectacular, but it's hardly worth buying anything much better for that computer. Also, RAM is going pretty cheap these days, and if you're low it's a great way to boost your computer's performance when gaming. This notebook has around a gig, and it struggles a bit with the Orange Box, which if you have a computer that will play it you definitely need to get.|||yes, it is certainly good enough for a casual gamer|||IF you have the power supply to support it sure why not|||I run a 256 MB 8600 GTS factory OC'd. Works great for me. Most high end games run at around medium, and I surprisingly got BioShock to run on high somehow. It cost about $160 and it's still around there.

The 5200 is pretty crappy to play high end games out now. (Crysis, COD4, WiC, BioShock, etc.)

Really good graphics? I'll tell you it's a load increase from the 5200 you're currently running. My old laptop was running a 5200, and it could barely run BF2 (no surprise). Now my 8600 sets everything on high and it runs fine.

Also, if you want to play Crysis, you're going to need a fairly high end system. You'll need to be running a decent dual-core preferably, and about 2 GB's or more of RAM. Then the 8600 can crank out about medium settings, with maybe some lagging. If you got the dough, the 8800 is out there waiting. Or you can go ATI (which I'm not a fan of) and get their new series of 3xxx cards.

P.S.: It's World In Conflict

I'm trying to install a decent video card in my computer. How do I know if I have PCI X16 in my machine?

my model is: HP d530 small form factor, 512mb of ram,

Pentium 4 2.8ghz,ati radeon 9200 256mb vram, and 40gb hdd.

Here there are instructions how to identify your express chipset, once you have identified your chipset, you can look up the specs on the Intel site for it and identify if it supports the PCI x16 graphics interface.

You can also use the chipset identification utility supplied by Intel on the same page.

Also, the connectors are set up for backwards compatibility, but an x16 connector will only fit an x16 compatible PCIe mating connector or less. See below

slot insertion guidelines

* A x1 connector can only take a x1 card

* A x16 connector can take a x1 through a x16 card

* A x8 connector with x4 links is physically a x8 connector and can take a x1 through a x8 card

* If a x8 card is inserted in a x8 connector with x4 links, the speed will throttle down to the speeds of a x4 card

I checked the HP website for the manual which indicates only AGP.

I have PCI express 1.0 x16 I bought a PCI Express 2.0 video card does that matter?

I have an Emachine T5082. I just bought the Sparkle GeForce 9400 GT Video Card 1GB.

According to the ESSENTIAL SPECS:

• Interface Type: PCI Express 2.0 x16

• Maximum Resolution: 2560 x 1600 (Digital)

• Video Memory: 1024B DDR2

however my computer has PCI express 1.0 x16 does that matter?|||no it doesnt just PCI Express 2.0 can transfer data quicker|||No, it won't matter. PCIe 2.0 card are backwards compatible with PCIe 1.0 interfaces on motherboards. The only difference between 1.0 and 2.0 is that 2.0 can make data "travel" faster, which would technically be a performance gain.

However, It wouldn't make a difference if your motherboard supports PCIe 2.0 anyway, as there aren't any games out right now that can take advantage of that increased bandwidth. There pretty much won't be anything that will take advantage of that bandwidth for a while actually.

PCI-Express X16 Video Card?

Thats the card I wanna buy... my question is.. how do i know if this badboy is gonna work in my computer?.. whats a PCI-Express x16 :P

if some 1 can talk to me in total computer/video card noob talk..thhaattdd be grreeaaatt..|||different ways of doing it. One would be if you know the model of your computer to go to the manufacturers website it will usually list if it has pci express support. Other is to open the side of your computer and look for a longer connector there should be a sticker saying if its pci express or of the agp format. it will look like this http://www.d-silence.com/articles/graphi…

also that card requires 2 pci express connectors from the power supply and in most cases you will need to upgrade your power supply too.

Is my Video card/Processor good for medium to heavy gaming?

I recently bought a new computer and I was wondering if my video card and processer was good for heavy and medium gaming. My video card is an AMD Radeon HD3450 256MB PCI-Express x16 RV620 and my processer is a Intel Core2 processor Q8200 (2.33Ghz 1333FSB) w/Quad Core Technology and 4MB cache.|||perhaps medium, but nothing too heavy or recent. i say get a radeon hd 4830 for like 80-90 bucks if your monitor is under 20". it can handle most recent games in medium-high graphics settings and if you can crossfire it is more powerful than a radeon 4870 which can handle anything out right now on high settings.

buy it on newegg.com and have the local computer geek or a computer shop install it if you dont know how|||Maybe medium, no way heavy gaming.|||upgrade your video card and you should be fine.

PCI Express 2.0 for video card upgrade?

I am looking at buying a video card and was wondering what I am limited to. I am looking for one so I can play WoW and watch videos mainly. I saw some that say PCI Express 2.0 on them but wasn't sure if my computer can handle those.

I just bought a new computer with a 128MB Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3100 built into the mother board.

I got the following slots available:

1x PCI slot (one available)

2x PCIe x1 slots (two available)

1x PCIe x16 slot (one available)

(extra Q. what does the #x mean before PCle mean?)|||PERFECT u got a PCI-e x16 slot

that will handel ALL the new cards!|||As others have said, that PCIe x16 will accept 1.1 and 2.0 PCIe vid cards|||A PCI-E 2.0 card will fit and work in a PCIe X16 slot, so you're off fine. The 1x part means there's one PCIe X16 slot. The X16 part means its data transfer rate compared to the original AGP bus. X16 is the most common for graphics cards, so any PCI-Express card should work.

Will the ATi Radeon HD4770 512MB DDR5 graphics card work in a PCI Express X16 ver. 1.1 slot?

Hi all,

I have a D945GCNL motherboard that has 1 PCI Express X16 ver. 1.1 slot which is NOT PCI Express X16 ver. 2.0. My CPU is Pentium Dual Core E2180. I want to buy a graphics card with which I can watch 720p and 1080p videos without any lag. I do not play games on my PC. I have seen the that ATi Radeon HD4770 is a great card and can fit into a PCI Express X16 ver. 1.1 slot. The following link shows the system requirements of the HD4770:

http://ati.amd.com/products/radeonhd4700/requirements.html

Am I correct in believing that this card will work in PCI Express X16 ver. 1.1 slot? Will it help improve the lag that I face when using the onboard video card?

The requirements for the card also states that I need a total of 450W or greater power supply with one 75W 6-pin PCI Express® power connectors recommended. What does that mean? Do I need to get a 500W PSU to run my PC? I believe my current PSU is a 400W one.

Which manufacturer makes the best HD4770 cards? XFX, MSI, HIS, Sapphire, Asus, Gigabyte?

My basic system information:

Motherboard: Intel D945GCNL

CPU: Pentium Dual Core E2180

Memory: 2 GB RAM (DDR2 - 667)

OS: Windows XP Professional SP3

Monitor: Samsung Syncmaster 732NW (VGA connection only) (link for monitor specs: http://www.samsung.com/ph/consumer/detail/spec.do?group=computerperipherals&type=monitor&subtype=lcdmonitor&model_cd=LS17PENSF/XTP&fullspec=F)

Any suggestions will be appreciated. For example, if I need a better CPU for the HD4770 or if I need a better quality cooling fan for the CPU.

Thanks!|||1.1 is compatible, it will be slower though [than the newer 2.0], but not noticeable for watching movies.

CPU/CPU cooling will not be affected. It is suggested to upgrade or add case fans, but I doubt you will need too. Stock coolers and fans get the job done if you don't plan on overclocking.

I swear by Sapphire for my graphics.

They include the adapter for DVI to VGA, so you're all good with your monitor.

A 75w 6-pin is a cable that comes from your power supply with, well 6 pins. Open up your case and look inside. If you see one that isn't hooked up to anything, you're good to go. This is what they look like.http://www.techaddicts.net/reviews/st75e…

If you don't have one, the card is usually supplied with an adapter that combines two "4-pin Molex" connectors into one 6-pin.

Basically, if you don't have the 6-pin, make sure you have two of these, http://www.ag.ndsu.nodak.edu/agcomm/accs…

If you don't have the connectors, its time to invest in a new PSU [power supply].

I suggest the PC Power & Cooling 750 watt quad

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Best PSU for value, hands down.

You shouldn't have any problems, They always bump up the minimum requirements, sort of like a safety net, for people on the low end of the spectrum.|||Hi,

Yes the card will work but as the motherboard PCI is version 1.1 you won't get the best out of the card but it is backwardly compatible.

You will need a bigger power supply if you use that card, I would go for at least 600watt to be safe as quoted wattage is not always accurate.

As for who makes the best cards, everybody has their own opinion!

Arnak|||Yes it will work just will load games a bit slower. Any PCI-e card will out perform any on board chipset. Newer video cards need a bit more power and specific power connections to function at full potential. Your 400w most likely will work (since you said you would not play games) But don't be surprised if you don't have the extra power leads to supply it.

Power supplies are very inexpensive

PCI Express x16 Card with HDMI output that works with 250 watt PSU?

My parents have a cheap Compaq desktop PC -- the functionality it offers generally exceeds their needs. However, I would like to connect this PC to their television so they can watch streaming videos more easily. Unfortunately, the integrated video card that came with the PC only supports VGA output. I would like to add a new video card that supports HDMI output. The system board has an open PCI Express x16 slot which supports video -- but as I look on NewEgg, I notice many of the cards have minimum power supply requirements exceeding 250 watts. Surely there are some out there that work with 250 watts (or less)? Any model/brand recommendations?

Thanks,

Josh|||Vomit is correct, the Radeon HD 5450 and 6450 both run fine on 250 watt power supplies- the 5450 doesn't even draw 15 watts under full load. I recommend the 6450 because it can handle full HD Blu-Ray playback flawlessly.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

ATI/AMD's published psu requirements on their sub-$100 card models are inflated way above what those cards actually use. For example, the much stronger Radeon HD 5670 and 6670 also have an "official" psu requirement of 400 watts, but even those cards don't have an external power connector and draw less than 60 watts under full load.... so those work fine on most 300W psus. For most computers with a 6450 or 5450 installed, total system power consumption is below 180 watts.

http://www.techspot.com/review/244-ati-r…|||http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main…|||A Radeon 5450 or 6450 will run fine on a 250w. Don't worry about what they say is required. Those cards eat diddly for power.

Can I plug a PCI Express x16 2.0 card into a PCI Express x16 slot?

I have a modified Acer Aspire T180 desktop PC and it's time to upgrade the video card as that's the piece of hardware that's slowing me down at this point.

I currently have an EVGA Nvidia 8600GT which has a PCI Express x16 connection on it and my MB also has a PCI Express x16 slot.

I went on Newegg and most of the cards now have a PCI Express 2.0 x16 connection on them...

Can I plug a new x16 2.0 card into my old x16 port?|||Yes, & there will be no performance loss whatsoever.

The higher bandwidth on a 2.0 slot is way overkill & was deigned with the future in mind.

There are virtually no single home user video cards presently in production that will bottleneck on a 1.x slot.

Will a PCI Express 2.0 card work in a PCI Express x16 slot?

I'm building a little gaming machine for myself and I bought a NVidea GeForce XFX 9800 GTX 1 Gig Video Card PCI Express 2.0, but I later realized that my PCI slot on my motherboard is of the PCI Express x16 type... my question is: Will the PCIE 2.0 card work in the PCIEx16 slot?|||It's all explained in the MoBo User Manual.|||Yes you can that card maybe a PCIe 2.0 but it still runs at x16. My 9600gt is a PCIe 2.0 card and it works 100% in my PCIe x16 slot.|||yes u can.. and vice versa as well ...and to further prove it i am useing two geforce 8800gts 512 in sli on a pci-e 16x mobo and they are both 2.0 cards =)|||Yes, pci-e 2.0 is completely backwards compatible.

i think it's no because i cant's see any slot of pci-e x16.only there is written on the motherboard just abobe the pci slot pci-e x16 but there is no slot in which graphics card can inserted.so can you help me by giving list of some best pci-e x1 graphics card under $50(which is my budget).since i have pci-e x1 and pci slot.also that should be enough to play latest games at medium settings.also pls do not suggest to buy new motherboard because i can't afford that right now.

i have intel dual core processor with 2gb ram|||Obviously that's not a "factory" Asus mother board as it should have a PCIe x16 slot. I bought a pci express x16 video (graphics) card for my emachine T2042, that has been upgraded to 1g or ddr. Low and behold, I need a pci card. Is there an adapter that will allow me to plug the pci express card into the pci slot, or am I stuck saving money to buy a regular pci. Any sugestions were I can buy an ati 256mb pci card? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4104586&csid=ITD&body=REVIEWS|||Yep, it should work. You see, the 2.0 means that it can take advantage of the speed that 2.0 slots offer. However, it will still work with the older version, PCI Express x16. So you're okay.|||yes... as long as it's pci express x16... it should work|||Yes, it'll work.

(are you in the US?) An 8600GTS might be $160, the GT should be much closer to $100.

At the moment, their is a new sub $200 king in town, and his name is the 3850. Newegg has them in stock for ~$185 including shipping. This is the best card less then $200 will get you. They perform very similar to the x1950XT, which you can barely find anymore. Two of these in CF will cost <$400, but in some situations can come close to the 8800GTX, which costs around $500. If you live in the US, and have $200 to spend, this is the card to get.

Can I run a video card and a sound card in both PCIe x16 slots?

I have a video card in one of the two x16 slots. Now I want to buy a good sound card and I was just wondering if there were any issues about having two different cards like that in both x16 slots...or should I fill one of the regular PCI slots?|||It doesn't really matter, they'll both provide great sound. Keep in mind though that most cards, especially Radeon cards from the HD 3xxx series onward have High-Definition 8-channel audio built into the card and runs off of the DVI or HDMI output. The other option you have is that a ton of sound cards are designed to use the PCI-Express x1 slot.|||The Radeon 5750 will definitely do the job.

Anyone have a 512mb PCI-E x16 video card recommendation?

I'm planning out a new system and need a recommendation for a good 512mb PCI-E x16 video card. I think I'd prefer nVidia because I like their control center, but I'd be open to an ATI card if they're genuinely better cards.

I'd prefer something at www.newegg.com or www.geeks.com too, unless you know of something elsewhere that's inexpensive and reliable.

Many thanks in advance for any suggestions.|||The 8800GT is my choice - best 512 card for the money IMO. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||Would be a waste of money to get the 8800GT at this point. Above posters are still about a month behind.

Not because it's not a great card, I use one myself.

The 8800GTS has been revised with the G92 board. It performs very closely to the 8800GTX now.

Matter o fact, the 8800GTS g92 is cheaper than the 8800GT right now, and outperforms it by a huge margin.

Spend a couple of extra dollars and do yourself the favor.

Grab the BFG Tech 8800GTS OC from Newegg.com . Super cheap right now, and comes with a lifetime manufacturer's warranty.

The better cooling also helps. Many of the 8800GT's have cooling issues. The 8800GTS g92 has AMAZING cooling.

What is a pci x1 slot? Will my pci video card work it says pci express x16?

no sir... pci 1x is for other thing... you should see that the connecting piece is totally different from a 16x. in other words no it wont work

Is PCIe x1 Video card better than PCI?

I was shopping for a new video card and was reading that PCIe x1 ( not PCIe x16 ) wasn't really good when it comes to video cards. On the other hand, it's sort of known that PCIe is generally better than PCI right? I was wondering that even though PCIe x1 may lack in performance in compared to, say PCIe x12 or x16, is it still better than a good PCI card? Or does PCI out-perform PCIe x1? If you have any knowledge when it comes to these two types of video cards, I'd appreciate your help.

By the way, I'm trying to do a bit of gaming with the card I buy too, so keep that in mind.|||Technically yes a PCIe x1 card would be better than a PCI, due to bandwidth and the fact that all the PCI cards would be super old by now. For gaming however, i wouldnt even bother getting either. You shoud go PCIe x16 or not bother because no real gaming cards will come in x1, just low power ones.|||Maximum capacity of a PCI slot is around 533 MB/s.

Maximum capacity of a PCIe x 1 slot is around 250 MB/s.

Those numbers may seem to speak for themselves, but they are confusing. See, all PCIe x 1 slots are the same speed. But there are several variations in the speed of PCI. Depends on the manufacturer and when it was made. It could be as slow as 133 MB/s if it is older and running at 33Mhz.

But overall, you are not going to get great performance out of a PCI or PCIe x 1 card. At least not on newer games. If you aren't gonna play anything that came out after 2009, you should be fine. Anything newer, and you are better off upgrading to a newer mobo with at least a PCIe x 8 slot and newer protocols. You can probably get a newer card to run in your older board(if you have a good power supply that is), but it will be bottlenecked by the slower speeds of an older PCIe slot. Many computers are tricky, as they will often be compatible with older hardware, but will only run as fast as the slowest part.

PCI video card question?

I'm planing to upgrade my video card. I see that it has a PCI Express x16 but beside it says (PCI-Express x8 bandwidth). Does that mean the PCI Express x16 card will run in Express x8 mode?

If so, I'm guessing it would be better off buyng a PCI-Express x8 card than a PCI Express x16 card ?

Thanks in advance.|||basically it will take pci/e 16x card but its only capable of 8x speeds its a limitation of the NVIDIA nForce 405 chipset|||Im pretty sure that pci-e x16 is better. It depends on what slot you have too. Im also pretty sure that they are diffrent slots but not totally.|||If it supports PCI x 16 then it will support x 8 and regular pci express, If you going to upgrade go with the fastest one no reason to go backwards on this.

Currently there is 3 video cards in the market.

Regular PCI older model, AGP previous model and PCI express latest model, each model different slot size.

Then within PCI expres you got PCI express and PCI express x 16|||it might be saying that one card is x16 but if you SLI it..it will only see both cards as x8 each

The sheet of metal is different from the other sheets as it is not as easily removable... it isn't able to be just pushed out like the others are. It would appear from the diagram of your machine that one of the slots has a permenant and un-removable cover plate, for some reason. Is there no way of installing in one of the other lots? I see that there is a modem in one of the slots shown on page 1 of the guide. Can that be removed or is it in a special socket?

Is the location stamped so that the piece can be pried out with a screw driver? My machine has semi-permanent covers over the slot holes, which have to be removed with a screw driver and a pair of needle nose pliers. # Minimum 400 Watt for SLI mode system.

What is the best video card for a PCI-E x16 Slot?

Is there one with ddr3 RAM? because i dont give a rats *** about ddr2. plain and simple question is. what is the best video card for my motherboard?|||Provided that you have a power supply that meets the cards power requirements, you can use any PCI Express x16 card or any PCI Express 2.0 x16 card, the 2.0 is backward compatible with a standard x16 slot.

There are graphics cards that have all the way up to (G)DDR5 on them, but without knowing what size power supply you have, or intend to get, it's hard to recommend a specific card.

This would be a good combination.

What is the best (PCI Express x16) video/Graphics card?

I have a MSI Radeon HD 2900 XT But I need a better one and my MoBo doesn't support Crossfire/SLI or PCI Express 2.0 so that only leaves PCI Express x16. So what is the absolute best that I can buy for PCI Express x16.

OS: WinXP

Processor: 4.8 gigahertz Intel Core 2 Duo

Mother Board: DG965WH AAD41692-306

Video Card: MSI Radeon HD 2900 XT / 512MB DDR3 / 512-bit / 320 Stream Processors|||PCI Express 2.0 x16 cards are compatible with the older PCI Express x16 slot interface.

Would a video card made for pci express x16 2.1 work on a motherboard that only supports pci e. 16 1.0?

I wanted to upgrade my video card, but I am concerned about the compatibility. I have a pci express x16 1.0 port, but the card I want is a pci express x16 2.1. Will it still work? Thanks a bunch!|||YES. PCIe 2.0/2.1 cards are backward compatible with the PCIe 1.0/1.1 slot. And they use the same x16 PCIe graphics slot. It is really the high-end dual GPU cards that need the high bandwidth of PCIe 2.0/2.1.|||Some motherboards require you to update the BIOS in order for the new PCI Express 2.1 specification to be compatible with 1.0 or 1.1. For example, the ASRock 945GCM-S motherboard requires a special beta BIOS update in order for any PCI Express 2.1 graphics cards to be compatible with it.

How do I Know If A MOBO's PCI-e x16 is compatible W/ a 256bit DDR3 video card?

Well I'm looking to purchase an MSI GTS 250 1gb 256 bit ddr3. But I don't think my motherboard (Intel dg31pr) support's 256bit and DDR3 but it has a pci-e x16 slot. My current video card is an Inno3d 9500gt 1gb 128bit DDR2. It's quite good when it comes to gaming but i still wanna upgrade.|||It will work flawlessly on the motherboard.

Graphics cards on PCIe are universal for any PCIe equiped motherboard.

Even the newest GPU (such as the ATI 5870) will just run with a slight bottleneck on the oldest mothebroards with a PCI express lane.

You should make sure you have all the proper power connectors for the graphics card beforehand however (as the card only uses 75 watts from the PCIe lane, and the rest of the power must be supplied by an addition 6 or 8 pin power connector).|||looking here

may help you

the ram on the graphics card doesn't come into the problen|||If your motherboard supports a PCI-E 16x card that's all you need to know regarding compatibility. On the other hand, your mobo does NOT support DDR3 SDRAM. The memory type of a video card is irrelevant to compatibility issues

Where can I get 128mb Nvidia video card that'll fit a PCI-E X1 not X16 slot (already checked Nvidia web site)?

Pine Technology Holdings makes one.

I saw it at pcuniverse.com

However I'd google the part number and see what comes up.|||They all fit....just don't perform as well.

Is there an advanced gamer video card that does not require PCI-E x16?

no, pci-e x16 was a break through in technology :P|||Nope... you can't be a Gamer unless you have a Pci Express card...|||look here. this is the best you can get.

How many inches can a PCI-E x16 slot accommodate for a video card?

I'm getting a new video card but I need to know if it can even fit in my motherboard without opening up my PC to look at it. Can GeForce 9500 GT DDR 2, 9400 GT, 8500 GT, 8400 GS fit into my MS-7366 motherboard with a PCI-E x16 slot? Please suggest other video cards if you can(only single-slotted ones).|||stop being a lazy bastard and open your case and look. It really depends on your computer case and not your motherboard.
