Video card requires a motherboard with 1 dual-width x16 graphics slot? Is this a regular slot?

Will it work in 1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card slot|||Yes, This means that your Motherboard has to have 1 PCI Express x16 (x16 is the speed of the Slot)

slot for your Graphics card.

Asus Radeon HD 2400Pro / 256MB DDR2 / PCI Express x16 / Graphics Card?

Hi, Can anybody tell me if this graphics card is good for what I need and if not what would you recommmend? I just want a graphics card that can play light games like the sims 2 with good resolution and smooth curves and maybe watch a few hd dvds

Thanks

yes mate, this will actually play some of the latest games on low resolutions

as for light gaming and hd-dvd,s there shouldnt be a problem

however remember the HD2400pro has just a v.g.a and a d.v.i port at the back, but it does have a HDTV connector and is also HDCP Compliant

this is the bottom of the HD radeon range of direct x 10 cards,a better investment would be to spend a few more quid and get a 256MB Asus HD 2600 PRO PCI-E(x16)(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn…

this has a 128bit bus compared to the 64bit in the 2400,and with a core clock of 600mhz and 256mb of gddr2 memory running at 1000mhz this is a much better performer, even when watching dvd,s and hd-dvd

graphic cards are one of the pieces of hardware we buy for our p.c were its best buying better, cheap graphic cards are normally inferior in specifications and only have low specs, making it easy for manufacturers to sell them so cheap

go for at least mid range, remember the graphics denote what you see when you use your p.c,you dont want a rubbish image in front of you every day, spend that little more and enjoy

good luck mate !|||Its like every new game that comes out Your card needs to be updated But if your only playing older games then you should be ok In a few years time the new games that come on the market will be ten times biger But yes that card is ok|||That card is fine for sims 2. You could get away with a cheaper card in fact.|||The HD 2400 is a decend card for the money but there are better cards for a little more. If you like ATI, there is the HD 2600 that should be a little more money (about $30). However, the HD 3850 is about $200 and is far better then both the 2400 and 2600. If you can afford $250-300, you can get the ATI 3870, another good card.

With nVidia, 8800 GT or greater are good cards. However, you will be paying much more for these cards (starting at $300+).

The only thing that I would recommend is that you get a card with 512mb ram. This is the new requirement for video cards as many of the new games require lots of ram on the cards to perform great.

What pci express video card is compatible with my gateway 507gr?

I bought an ATI Radeon X300 LE 256 meg card that is PCI-express x16, which is what my computer is supposedly compatible with, and I upgraded my power supply to 400 watts, 50 above what is recommended for this video card, and it won't work at all.. I'm thinking that this card might not be compatible with this version of the PCI-Express chipset or whatever, but I can't find out anywhere what card would be compatible with it...|||Uh, did you enable the PCI-E port in the BIOS?? It has integrated graphics and won't work until that is disable and the otherone disabled.

Gateways is one of the most non-compatible brands made, but if it has a slot in there it should work.

Is a PCI Express 2.0 video card compatible with a PCI Express x16 slot?

I'm planning to buy a GeForce 8800GT but I just noticed that it is a PCI Express 2.0 card. I have a PCI Express x16 slot and is just wondering if the GeForce 8800 GT will work on my slot.|||YES.

PCI Express x16 2.0 Video Card in a PCI Express x16 slot?

If I buy a PCI Express x16 2.0 video card, will it be compatible with my PCI Express x16 motherboard slot?|||Yes.

If you have a PCI-e 1.0 slot the card will only run at 1.0 speed though.|||it will. the 2.0 spec has a higher bandwidth than a 1.0, however, most graphics cards do not take full advantage of this extra bandwidth so you will only experience a slight performance hit (if any)

Will a video card with PCI Express 2.1 x16 plug into a motherboard that supports PCI Express 2.0 x16 and work?

I've got a motherboard that says how it has PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card slots and a video card that says PCI Express 2.1 x16 on the box. Will I be having a problem with my video card or will it work correctly?|||Yes, you can use ANY pci-e x16 card in ANY pci-e x16 slot. Doesnt matter what revision, they are backwards compatible. and there is no difference in 2.1/2.0, and there is hardly any difference in 2.0/1.0 lol|||It'll work. I have a PCI-E 2.0 card on my PCI-E 1.0 mobo. XD

Is a pci express x16 video card compatible with my pci express slot?

I am planning to upgrade my computers video card because its original is dying out. So i found one online but it is a pci express x16 card and has a ddr2/gddr3 memory interface. And my computers video card slot is a pci express and the original card is a ddr memory interface. So I want to know if the card I am wanting to purchase will work or not with my computer?|||Yap, it should work.

Can i run HD-467X-ZDFR Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready Video Card?

Processor: Core 2 Duo E4700 (C) DC 2.6 GHz (65W)

Hard drive: 320 GB SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec); 7200 rpm

16X DVD(+/-)R/RW 12X RAM (+/-)R DL LightScribe SATA drive

Network (LAN): Integrated 10/100 Base-T networking interface|||Yes as long as your have a PSU that can support your new video card, and if you have a pci-e x16 sot on your motherboard (which you should, but there is a possibility it doesnt have it).

Id say you need like a 350W psu to handle the card with ease on your system. (Very bare min of like 200-250W).

I would suggest you also upgrade your systems ram, 1gb is hardly enough to do any gaming, which im sure is the reason you are getting a new video card for.

Is a PNY VCG7950GXPB Geforce 7950GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card a good video card?

yes it is very fast, however if you want a better one buy 2 in SLI mode|||if ur Mother Board Is Compactaible 2 PCI EXPRESS Card........den go 4 PCI Express card...it is One of the BEST 1ce U can get......PciExpress Card Runs Better than ne Other Card.........Hav Fun|||Hell yea....I cant afford it but its probably the best card on the market now.

And I'm wondering, because I know I'm going to get a graphics card no matter what, that since it has both a PCI Express and PCI slot, if I install both will the computer run both? If not I'll just put in an AMD PCI Express card by itself.|||Unless you plan to have 4 monitors attached to your computer at once, no, there isn't any point in having a PCIE and PCI graphics card at the same time.

Only one card does the actual work of processing graphics, the other idles. Using that setup (1 PCIE and 1 PCI) the best your PCI card can do is to just provide 2 additional ports for you to plug monitors into, but it is useless in gaming.

If you want dual graphics cards, you need a motherboard that supports Crossfire or SLi, with a minimum of 2 PCIE 16x slots. The 2 cards will also need to be identical and linked together using a bridge.

PCI graphics cards are ancient anyway, you won't be able to play any recent games on a PCI card.

Can a computer that supports PCI Express x16 use a PCI Express 2.0 X16 video card?

what is the difference between the two?|||No. If you had a PCIE card and your board was PCIE 2 or 3 then it would work. You can't use a technology that comes later in one that came prior. IE: You can use 1.0 on a 2.0 mobo but you cannot use a 2.0 on a 1.0 mobo.|||PCI Express 2.0 means you have support for multi-gpu setups BOTH running at 16x, as opposed to one running at 16x, and the second running at 8x.

This question only applies if you're using a GX2 series or X2 series cards, which are really crossfired or SLI boards on a single card. In THAT case, it would apply and be a problem, maybe. Chances are, the 2.0 version is just an advertising point to say that it's newer. It should work.

Can i use a pci e x16 video card in regular pci express slot?

if not what is a good video card like xfx 9600gt same price|||In order to use a PCI-Express video card, you need a PCI-E x16 slot.

The shorter white slots aren't PCI-Express, just plain PCI.

The tiny little PCI-E x1 slots aren't really for video cards (There are like a total of 2 cards in existence made for that interface)

The GeForce 9600GT kind of sits alone.. It's faster than the Radeon 4670 and GeForce 9600GSO but slower than the Radeon 4830 and GeForce 8800GT.|||You should be able to, though if the motherboard doesn't support x16, it will throttle the bandwidth down to whatever speed it supports.

Also, make sure you're not confusing PCI-E 1x (aka a tiny slot) with x16.|||dont think you can

Would a PCI Express x16 2.0 slot accept a PCI Express x16 1.1 video Card?

because i am looking to purchase a new mobo and cpu but i dont want to buy a video card if i dont have to...|||Most are backwards compatible. But it would be a good idea to check the manufacturer's web site for further info.|||yes, the transfers are slower.|||yeah, its just like USB, 2.0 is faster than 1.1 and you can use a 2.0 GPU in a 1.1 slot. the mobo im looking at is a 2.0 x 1 and 1.X x 2. go for it and see if your mobo will allow it. it should in my best knowledge

PCI-e x1 to PCI-E x16 , video card Q?

Hi

i bought a video card that is PCI-e 16 and i only have PCI-e x1, if i buy this product

http://alrightdeals.com/Item.htm?Id=S5_C…

will the new video card work? its a VisionTek Radeon X1550 - PCI-e|||its only for low form factor cards, if you put it in with a normal card it wont line up with the expansion slot on the back of the case. I will guess that even if it did fit and work it would be like running 16 lanes of traffic across a 1 lane bridge but for $30 its worth a shot though...|||If you get time, I wish you would email me, and tell me the motherboard that you have that has only a PCI-Express x1 slot, and does not have a PCI-Express slot. Or, tell me the computer name and model. (Click on my Chickster avatar, and on my profile page click on Email Chickster)

A PCI-x1 slot has 36 contact pins in the slot. 18 on each side.

A PCI-x16 slot has 164 contact pins. 82 on each side.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

(Scroll down the page about halfway. Look at the chart to the left of the photo that has 'An XFX brand Nvidia GeForce 6600GT, ya-da, ya-da', showing)

Looking at the 'technical specifications' for the Startech PEX1 to 16 adapter, on it's 'technical specifications' page, on Startech.com, and knowing how the PCI Technology works, this adapter will work.

(This page IS NOT technical by any means! lol!)

http://www.startech.com/item-specs/PEX1T…

From Wikipedia.org-PCI-Express article:

"A connection between any two PCIe devices is known as a "link", and is built up from a collection of 1 or more lanes. All devices must minimally support single-lane (x1) link. Devices may optionally support wider links composed of 2, 4, 8, 12, 16, or 32 lanes. This allows for very good compatibility in two ways:

* a PCIe card will physically fit (and work correctly) in any slot that is at least as large as it is (e.g. an x1 sized card will work in any sized slot);

* a slot of a large physical size (e.g. x16) can be wired electrically with fewer lanes (e.g. x1, x4, or x8) as long as it provides the power and ground connections required by the larger physical slot size."

This stands to reason, as you can share a wire with different electrical signals. Take a cable, from the cable company for example. This cable, has a shielded ONE strand of solid copper wire.

You can have cable TV, phone, and Internet access, across this one strand of wire.

I frankly, would buy a motherboard that has a PCI-Express x16 slot on it. Just the way I ride.|||personally I would return your video card and buy a compatible one also which motherboard do you have? does it have a agp video card?|||VisionTek Radeon X1550 - PCI-e would have to be a low profile model.

|||It might work but personally i'd add a few more $'s to that price and buy a new motherboard that has PCI-e 16|||What motherboard do you have has only PCI-e x1 slots???

How do you remove a pci express x 16 video card?

I have a pci express x16 video card that I want taken out for a replacement. I can't figure out how to get it out, the port looks like the one in blue from this picture: http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2007/1119/tawada117_3.jpg

Thanks so much, I really need this help.|||There is a latch/lock on the rear of the PCI-Ex16 slot that you have to push carefully to release the card.

Good luck|||Unplug the computer from power. Press the power button to drain all electical power from the motherboard and power supply. Unplug all electrical connections from the video card.

Remove the screw from the L-shaped, video card bracket that is attached to the rear of the computer.

If you look carefully at the card, you will see that it fits into a raised slot on the motherboard. Ground yourself (very, very important), then run one hand under the card and feel along the end of the slot farthest from the rear of the computer. You should feel a small, plastic tab, that is the lock that holds the card to the motherboard. Gently pull down on the tab and pull out on the video card. The card should slide out of the PCI-E slot.|||1. remove the screw holding the bracket to the back of the computer

2. press up (away from the card) the tab at the end of the PCIe slot

3. While holding the tab, wiggle the card and gently pull the card away from the motherboard

4. If so equipped - remove the power cord from the video card also.|||The tab on the right end of the card slot is a locking mechanism. To release the one in the photo, you would need to lift the tab away from the card slightly to release the lock (straight up in the photo). Make sure that the screw is removed from the retention bracket at the rear of the case, then while holding the tab (lock release), pull the card from the slot.|||With the blue ports in that picture you have to hold the tab at the back of the slot out a bit to unlock the card.

Can I run my computer with two video card 1 pci express x16 and the original pci?

i have two slots of pci, 1 pci x16, and 1 pci x1. now i want to buy a pci x16 for my computer and i don't know if i can have more than one video card at the same time with different sockets, pci and pci x16, and oh yeah is there a socket of 6pin pci on the power source?|||you could do that but you could only use on card a a time. there is really no purpose for that the pci 16 card would basicly run at 16 times the speed of the pci slot. if you have a pci 16 slot there should no reason to use the pci slot for that purpose . the 6pin on your power supply is normaly used in some higher end cards . that pin basicly uses that for the power rather then sucking it from the motherboard. go with the pci 16 . hope this helps|||Sure you can. But realize you can't connect them together. which means you will need at least 2 monitors.|||Yes. I've done it before with an 8800GTS on PCIe x16 and an older cheapo Radeon card on normal PCI. I had three monitors plugged in at the same time, it was awesome. I had a total of three DVI ports and one VGA port so I could have had a fourth monitor if I had one.|||Your board only supports one PCIe video card since it only has one PCIe x16 slot. You can't use a regular PCI slot due to the slot bus speed not being optimized like a PCIe slot and the card won't fit. You will have to check your power supply to see if you have the proper power connector for the video card you wish to buy. Some require two 6 pin connectors, while others only need one. Also, some require a 6+2 pin connector, so be sure to check your power supply. Another thing, make sure your power supply meets the minimum voltage requirements for the card you want to buy as well or you could experience problems.

What is the best PCI Express X16 low-profile video card available?

I have a Dell PC which will only accept a single low-profile PCI Express X16 video card. I have an ATI X1300 Pro installed right now. It works OK, but I wanted to see if a significantly faster card is available. Having a low-profile slot instead of full size seems to have narrowed my choices significantly. So, what's the best I can hope for?|||Those cards Pyroflame linked to are FULL HEIGHT cards and will NOT work in your low-profile case.

This is going to be as good as you can get with a low-profile http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…|||http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Heres a card that is small and will pack a punch. Much faster than you x1300. Make sure you have enough power to supply this card. And a 6 pin power supply cable.

If you don't want to have to mess with extra cables try this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

This 8600GT will also be better than your x1300 and is even smaller than the previous card.

How to fix PCI-E speed for video cards?

My motherboard was advertised as supporting PCI-E 2.0 x16 (Asus Rampage III Formula), and my graphics card both report the ability to run at PCI-E 2.0 x16 (AMD HD Radeon 6870, XFX), but for some reason they both are running at PCI-E 2.0 8x. Is there a way to fix this?|||Your motherboard isn't incorrect. You probably have an x48 motherboard (or amd equivlent) which in crossfire only supports a maximum of 8x PER card. A socket 775 Intel or AM2+ Proccess would have the chipsets in question.

Solutions: New base system. (Board,processor,ram,psu)

Remove a card and sell it for 16x solo bandwidth.

keep it in and enjoy crossfire.

Can a 460W power supply power a PNY GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card?

http://www2.pny.com/8800-GT-512MB-PCIe-2…

If not, can it run one one that has 256MB?

If both of those can't will a 8600GT one work?|||Yeah, it'll work. The minimum power required is 400W.|||you need to supply more info. Yes that should be enough for the video card but I have no clue if you're running 6 sata drives, a raid controller, and a quad core cpu.

Is a Gateway GM5407e PC compatible with a PCI express 2.0 x16 video card? cant seem to find the answer?

Yes

How to add more RAM to nVidia NVS 285 video card?

I have the following video card:

PNY Quadro4 NVS285 64MB 64-bit DDR PCI Express x16

I would like to know if I can expand the memory on this card. If so, what is the max memory for this card? What type of memory do I need to purchase? Thanks.|||In short, NO...the memory is built into the card, it's not like adding memory to your motherboard.|||I assume this is a 128mb card, in which case you cannot expand the memory as its integrated into the card.

The only option is to upgrade to a 256mb card.|||You can only add memory for your pc, but not the video card. You need to buy a card with more ram. Newegg.com and Pricewatch.com are the best places to find good prices on video cards.

Will a PCI express 2.1x16 video card be slower with a motherboard compatible with PCI express?? X16?

Your probably saying you want to install a 2.1 PCI-Express graphics card in a motherboard with a PCI-Express 2.0 slot.

You won't feel any differences if you do that. PCI-E 2.1 has the same speed as PCI-E 2.0.

@ Igor: PCI-Express 1.0 is the slot with smallest lane. Use this for reference: http://www.it4fans.ro/wp-content/uploads…|||If your Pci express port is 2.0 it will run normally but if it is 1.0 it will be a bit slower.

Does a PCI Express x16 1.1 card work in a motherboard that supports PCI Express x16 2.0?

I have a 8800 GTX which is pci express x16 1.1 and i need to buy a new motherboard, but all motherboards are pci express 2.0 now. Will my video card work on the new motherboard?|||Yes.

The only difference between the two slots is a higher bandwidth on 2.0 ... the interface is the same.

It would also work the other way around (2.0 card on 1.1 slot).

Philip T|||yes

Video card pci express x16?

I have a motherboard that supports pci express x16, would i be able to put a PCI express 2.0 x16 card in the pci express 1.0 x16 slot?|||Yes. PCIe-2 is backwards compatible with PCIe-1.1|||yes|||yes, my 3rd computer has the pci x16 too, i did the same it still works no problems. bit of work invovled but it works.

If I purchase a pci express 2.0 video card, will it run in my regular pci express x16 slot?

I'm planning on building a new system but the mobo I want does not have pci express 2.0. However, the video card that I want to purchase is a pci express 2.0 card. The mobo that I intend to purchase supports pci express x16. Is the fitting the same? Will the card run just as a pci express x16 card? All the information I've been able to locate points to yes. Seeing that 2.0 is twice the speed, I should have the card running equivalent to 2.0 x8, or 1.1 x16, correct?|||A PCI-Express 2.0 version graphics card will 'run' in a PCI-Express 1.1 version slot. It's due to the technology of PCI-Express.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

(Scroll down about halfway, and read under the sub-heading

PCI-Express 2.0)

The x16 designation means->Times 16 The 16 is a reference to Lanes.

Lanes for graphics 'traffic'. Graphics data transmission. Graphics data goes to the graphics card, and from the graphics card, across these lanes. You will always have 16 Lanes with a x16 card.

With PCI-E 1.1 version, graphics data information is sent at 250MB's per Second, in EACH direction.

250MB's per Second to the graphics card, and 250MB's per Second, away from the graphics card.

PCI-E 2.0 rate is 500MB/s (500MB's per Second)

Now, will you notice this difference? Doubt it!|||It will work.|||It should work.

However, I do believe that the speed will be much, much slower, as PCI-e 2.0 is significantly faster the the original PCI-e. Hence, you'll be wasting a lot of money buying a 2.0 card when most of it's potential can't be unlocked by the slower PCI interface.

Hope this helped.

Best pci express 2.0 x16 video card under $50?

i'm planning on upgrading my video card, a sapphire x1550 256 mb. Not sure what the other specs are though. My computer has only a pci express x16 slot. not a 2.0 slot. anyway, i'm thinking about getting a new video card around or under $50 for it. I want to play games like crysis and maybe some new games out there.|||You should go for atleast 100 bucks for a even an entry level gaming card. try the 9500GT by XFX can run Dead Space at about 60fps with medium-high settings and at a medium resolution. The GTX cards are the only ones that really benefit from pci-e x16 2.0. So even if you buy a 2.0 it will still perform just about the same as a 1.0 card would have.|||You want to play games on a $50 video card? That's going to be a little rough, but maybe you can find a 9600GT that cheap, if you search for good deals. Your best bet is to buy an 8800GT or 9800GT on ebay. Good luck.

What computer will work with a XFX PVT42EUDE3 Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card?

I want to put a XFX PVT42EUDE3 Geforce 6800XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card in a computer but I don't know what computer will work with it. Help?|||The question is not what computer type will work. The question should be "what motherboard or mainboard" will work with your PCIe x16 card. There are many board makers that will take this card which is fairly new. To answer your question....Find a computer that contains a motherboard that has a slot for a PCIe x16 graphics card.

What video card can i put in a Dell Optiplex 620?

I was recently given a Dell Optiplex 620 for free, which is a huge upgrade from what I had. I would like to put a nice video card in it, but I don't think a regular one will fit. This seems to be a mini desktop case, it's only about 3" tall. Are there video cards made for cases this small? I'm pretty sure there is a PCI Express x16 slot, so I'm assuming something must go there. Any help would be great. Thanx!|||Take a look at this link:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

It's the manual for your computer, and it points out where the PCI-E card slot is. This is assuming you have the small form factor version of the computer, if not you can find manuals for the other types here:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/sy…

Anyway, it looks like PCI-E is the way to go, so any graphics card using that interface will be fine.|||You aren't going to be able to fit a standard height video card into that computer. You'll have to use one of these low-profile cards: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcom…

They aren't going to win any speed awards, but they're still many times faster than the onboard video that it's got now.|||Yes, a regular PCI express card will fit. i WOULD GO WITH A GEFORCE 8800 GTX.. SWEEET

How do I found out what Video card ports I have?

I am getting a new video card, a Radeon HD 5750, but it is PCI Express 2.0 x16, but my current video card is PCI Express 1.0 x16, will my port work with the 2.0 card, or is there a way to find out if I have a 2.0 port?|||It will work, just not to its full capacity. You should look at the documentation that came with your computer, check their website, or run a program that will tell you the details of your computer ( for example SiSoft Sandra.)|||this isn't important

pci-e 2.0 is backward compatible to pci-e 1.0

What video card will perform well with 300 watts?

I need a video card that is able to connect to an HDTV and that will work with 300 watts. I'm not a hard core gamer, my most modern PC game is Dreamfall: The Longest Journey. However, I plan on purchasing Half-Life 2, Oblivion, and Tomb Raider: Anniversary very soon. I would like a video card that runs some of the more recent games at decent frame rates. I was thinking of a video card in the geforce 6 and 7 series. Here are my specs:

Pentium 4 3GHz, 1GB of Ram

PCI Express x16 Expansion slot (right now I use integrated graphics)

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition, and 300-watt Power supply.|||i would highly suggest you upgrade your power supply. 450 watts is roughly the bare minimum if you want a stable and decent gaming computer. Cards that can run Oblivion at decent frame rates and at low-medium settings need at least 450 watts.

check the link below to choose the best card for your budget.

once you have a card in mind, do research on its power requirements especially on the Amperage rating. Check your power supply if it meets the requirement (which i think it wont) if not then you need to purchase a new power supply that meets your video card requirement.|||Well if u want u could get a GForce 7800 which can run most if not all games well and u should get like 1 more gb of ram just to be safe.

I disabled my pci express video card in bios and now I can't "enable" it, how can I fix this?

I have a intel server board w/ 2 xeon processors and I'm runing windows xp on it. I installed a pci express x16 video card on it and I had it working fine for a while, however I was messing around w/ bios and disabled the pci slot. After re-enableing the pci slot, my computer does not recognize my video card anymore and I can't get any video feed from it. The pci express x16 enableing option in bios does not even show up anymore. How can I get my video card to work again? I have been considering taking out the battery on my board and resetting everything, but is there an easier way?|||That would be my first recommendation, but in some board taking the battery out isn't enough anymnore. Read the MB manual to find the reset instructions for the BIOS. Usually involves moving a jumper, powering the system on a few times, then moving the jumper back.

I have pci-express x16 slot for graphic card?8800gt or higher require 2.0 x16. help!!!!!!!!!!!?

wherever i see 8800 gt or a high power video card requires a slot given as-

2.0 x16 pci-express.

now i have-pci-expressx16 slot. my motherboard is 945GCM3 chipset.

i already have 7200 gs installed on my pc. it's very very poor gfx card.

now i wanna buy a 88000gt or higher, will it will be installable???????

also tell difference between 2.0x16 and x16 pci-express slots???helpppp|||they are both compatible|||Yes it will still run as long as it is PCIe X16 doesn't matter if it is that or 2.0 or 3.0.

The difference is in the mother board and transfer rates. The 2.0 on the card is just saying that if your motherboard is 2.0 then you will get that transfer rate with this card. Here's the break down:

PCIe X16

1.0 = 1.25GHZ clock speed 2.5 GT/s Transfer rate 250mb Data rate

2.0 = 2.5GHZ C.S. 5 GT/s TR 500mb DR

3.0 = 4GHZ C.S. 8 GT/s TR 1GB DR|||Go Ahead get the card! PCIe is backward compatible|||there the same thing, its just the pci express port 0.2 runs faster that's all.

Nothing to worry about

Onboard Integrated graphics (IGP) driver need to uninstall before installing new video card (PCI-E) driver?

Previously I am using Intel Integrated Graphics on my motherboard (Intel 946GZ - GMA 3000 driver). I just bought a Nvidia PCI Express x16 video card to upgrade my system (Nvidia Geforce 8500GT) and I would like to know if my current GMA 3000 Intel driver will conflict with my new Nvidia driver. Do I need to uninstall the Intel driver before installing the new Nvidia driver?|||Well its not necessary to uninstall but for some motherboards the graphics card will be not be detected so everyone advice to uninstall the onboard graphics.|||No, you do not need to uninstall the old driver.

PCI Express x16 and PCI Express 2.0 video cards?

I was wondering if it was possible for PCI Express 2.0 video cards such as the GeForce 8800GTS and the Radeon HD 3870 to be able to run on PCI Express x16 motherboards? I'm not sure if i need to get a new motherboard or not...I've never actually heard of PCIe 2.0 until a few days ago while looking for a new card. Please help me!|||Top person is wrong-

PCI-E 2.0 cards are completely compatible with PCI-E 1.

Any PCI-E 2.0 card works on any PCI-E 1 slot (as long as your slot is X16)|||2.0 is on the bleeding edge of the video card market. most motherboards do not support 2.0 as of now. so to answer your question, most likely no, your motherboard wont support the geforce 8800gts. just find a regular x16 pci-e card, there's tons of them and relatively cheap for the performance. there is a nice one for 90 dollars on new egg, Nvidia. 550 mhz core clock, 1400 memory clock XD.|||I second the second person's answer.

I have a pc w/ a motherboard that has pci slots / agp slot..and have pci-express x16 video card..any solutions?

the pci slots on my motherboard are regular old pci slots.

I've seen solutions such as:

- a pci slot to pci-express x1 adapter (but I need x16, i think)

- read about an adapter between agp and pci-express...

I am just not sure what I need.|||an agp video card.|||or a pci-express x16 motherboard!

I was planning on getting this video card

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

and i wanted to know how much of a performance loss would be noticeable on a pci-e x16 video card, because that is all I have on my mobo.|||No performance loss. That's right, NONE.

No single graphics card can max out the bandwidth of a PCIExpress 16x v1.0 slot.

Only high-powered SLI setups would max out PCIe 1.0, so those work best with PCIe 2.0.

That HD4890 will work just fine on your PCIe 16x v1.0 slot.|||I found this site that had a bunch of info on video cards like side by side comparable stats and which ones were the best for the money and brand. I think itll help you out, just click on the third link down.

http://www.iVideoCard.info

HOpe it helps :)|||2.0 just means it will run faster (faster transfer)it shouldn't show a noticeable difference in graphics accept for it has the possibility to lag a little more

The card's minimum requirements are:

1) AMD Athlon® or Intel® Pentium® 4

2) 512MB of system memory; 1GB or more for best performance.

3) Optical drive for installation software (CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive).

4) 480MB available hard disk space

5) A 400 Watt or greater

ANSWERS:

1) Yes, Your computer meets requirements

2) Yes, Your computer meets requirements HOWEVER since you are running windows vista i would recommend getting more memory (RAM) for your computer, you have 512 mb right now, i'd get atleast another 1 GB.

3) Yes, Your computer meets requirements

4) Yes, Your computer meets requirements

5) NO, Your computer DOES NOT meet the MINIMUM requirements.

I'm sorry but your computer has a 250-Watt power supply (which really isn't much) you should aim for a 400-500 Watt Power Supply (i'd recommend getting at least a 450-Watt)

Sorry, but i hope i have helped.|||Yes|||Everything butt he power supply looks good. I don't know the exact requirement's for that card but 250 watt's is a little low. You may need to get a stronger one, preferably at least the very least, 400 watt's. 500 or more recommended.

Otherwise yes, the rest is ok. It might even work with 250 watt's.|||yes but AMD sucks!|||Power supply (PSU) and RAM are your biggest problems. Add another 512MB or even upgrade to 2GB (get two new RAM sticks - really cheap at those frequencies anyway, around $40). 450W PSU is still archaic by today's standards - especially if you want to play games. You'll experience slow-downs and possible brown-outs/shut-downs if you barely meet the PSU requirements for your graphics card. You'll want some more headroom to run things smoothly, especially if you want to upgrade in the future. A 700W PSU is relatively inexpensive these days and has more than enough to compensate for future upgrades. My GPU is a Sapphire Radeon HD 3870, and my PSU is an OCZ 800W. I also have 2GB DDR2-800 RAM (OC'ed to 1066MHz). Runs games well and no power supply issues.

Some friendly advice. Also, AMD really does suck these days...

Will a double slot video card fit in an ASUS P5Q PRO motherboard?

I'm planning on getting a 9800GT video card for my system and it has 2 PCI Express 2.0 x16 slots. I'm wondering whether the double slot solution fits in my system on the first (blue) slot, since the southbridge heatsink may be in the way. Will it go past the southbridge, or will it get in the way so I'd have to stick with a single slot? Thanks.|||This motherboard only supports ATi's system of dual graphics cards (CrossFireX) and not nVidia's system of SLi.

Will 2 video cards work with a motherboard with 2 pci express x16 2.0 slots?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135228|||The MoBo doesn't have to say SLI or Crossfire support for the SLI or Crossfire GPUs to function. You just need to make sure that you have the correct GPUs that will work in those modes. Basically, the ones that do say Crossfire or SLI ready are optimized to run in that mode. That doesn't mean that any other motherboard cant. In this particular board they give you the option by giving 2 PCIe slots but it isn't optomized to use it. Yours in particular is Crossfire compatible and not SLI compatible. Make sure you take note of that while purchasing the card.|||If it has two slots, then it will do it.

The video card is what is SLI, not the motherboard.|||The board supports Crossfire, check the link in my source.|||That is a CrossFire motherboard, no SLI.

What video card slot goes into what? x16,2.0,2.1?

my motherboard says it can hold PCI,PCI Express X1,PCI Express X16.but the ones on the website says 2.0 x 16,2.1 x 16.im new to buying a pcie video cards, i've only put in pci cards.so as long as it says pcie it should work?which one do i need to get?thanks|||You are confused on several things.

First of all, PCI and PCIExpress are COMPLETELY DIFFERENT things and are UTTERLY incompatible, despite the similarity in name. Don't EVER buy a PCI video card. You should be buying a PCIExpress 16x video card.

Second, you are confusing bus lane width with the version number. The "x16" and "x1" describes how wide the number of data lanes the PCIExpress slot has. Video cards use PCIExpress 16x. The 1.0, 2.0, 2.1 describes the specifications version of a PCIExpress card or slot. ALL PCIEXPRESS SPEC VERSIONS ARE COMPATIBLE WITH EACH OTHER. It will just run your system at the lowest spec version's speeds if your vid card and mobo slot are different spec versions.

Buy a PCIExpress 16x video card. Any of those PCIExpress 16x video cards will work on your motherboard's PCIExpress 16x slot, doesn't matter what spec versions your card or slot are.|||Get a PCI-E x16. Doesn’t really matter what version. You should get 2.0 or 2.1 if you have the option. PCI is different than PCI-E, so be careful not to mix em up :)

The x16 part defines how ‘wide’ the port is. x16 means it has 16 ‘lanes’. Just about any graphics card will be x16.

2.0 and 2.1 are the version of the port. 2.0 is like 1.0 except it has much more throughput for the same number of lanes. If you have a 1.0 port, you can install a 2.0 or 2.1 card, but it’s possible you won’t be able to use the card to its fullest potential (Good luck finding or affording a card this fast...). 2.1 is the same as 2.0 except it supports new managment and support systems—no performance differences—and also backwards compatible with 2.0 and 1.0.

I want to buy hd 4870 x2 video card the question is my mobo is pci x16. will it holdback my gpus perfformance?

will it slow down the speed of 4870x2? what about the power supply? what will happen if my power supply is below the wattage requirement of the video card?|||If the PSU isn't up to it

Your psu blows and can take out part of your computer with it

Theres nothing bigger tahn pci-e 16*

thats the max

The only thing that will hold it back is if you don't have crossfire support

If you have sli then go for nvidia

crossfire go for ati

What's the difference between a pci-E and a pci-E X16 video card?

I just bought a new comp with 4 gigs ram and an intergrated geForce 6150 (i think 128mb) card... I wanna upgrade to a 512 card I know there is a pci-E slot and a pci-e 16 slot, is the 16 better?|||Yes, the x16 slot is better, and is intended for graphic card uses. PCI-E x16 has pretty much been industry standard for the last 3 years or so. x16 refers to the BANDWIDTH of the slot vs. the speed of the slot.

If you think of a freeway w/ a speedlimit of 60mph, PCI-E X16 would be like a freeway w/ 16 lanes vs a country highway w/ 1 lane per direction.|||x-16 a must

From the wiki

PCIe 2.0 doubles this data rate, introduced in late 2007, PCIe 2.0 is found on newer systems such as those based around the Intel X38 or AMD 780G chipsets.

The latest proposed PCIe 3.0 standard will increase the speed of the links further (tentatively scheduled for release around 2010).[1]

Each PCIe slot carries either one, two, four, eight, sixteen or thirty-two lanes of data between the motherboard and the addin card. Lane counts are written with an "x" prefix e.g. x1 for a single-lane card and x16 for a sixteen-lane card. Thirty-two lanes of 250 MB/s (PCIe 1.1) gives a maximum transfer rate of 8 GB/s (250 MB/s x 32, i.e., 8 billion bytes per second) in each direction. However the largest size in common use for PCIe 1.1 is x16, giving a transfer rate of 4 GB/s (250 MB/s x 16) in each direction. Putting this into perspective, a single lane for PCIe 1.1 has nearly twice the data rate of normal PCI, a four-lane slot has a transfer rate comparable to the fastest version of the old parallel PCI-X 1.0, and an eight-lane slot has a transfer rate comparable to the fastest version of AGP. However the data rates cited must be derated because 8b/10b coding is used in the physical layer. The link transfer speeds cited are to be considered maximum theoretical data rates.

It doesnt specify whether the expansion slot is PCI-E x8 or x16 or what, so can anyone help me out here and tell me if I can use a x16 video card on this? And if not, what kind may I use?|||it's a PCIe x16 slot so you can use either a PCIe x16 or even a PCIe 2.0 graphics card.

BUT, you will face another problem - the PSU. the specs say it's only a 300W PSU, so you can't go higher than a Geforce 9500 GT without upgrading the PSU.

e.g. for a Geforce 8800 GT you need at least a 450W PSU and for a Geforce 9800 GTX and higher a 550W/600W PSU is required.|||Well basically its a tough one to answer

Like you said it only states that it has onbboard graphics.

does not even tell you what motherboard it uses so apart from calling them to ask you will not know if it uses the X8 or 16X Lane Pci-E

16 would go into the 8X but then it would only run at 8X

I have a " PCI Express x16 (running at x 4)" slot. The video card in question requires "PCI Express 2.0". I don't want to buy something I won't be able to use so thanks for your help.|||Yes, it is compatible. A PCI Express x16 slot fits 2.0 cards and 2.1 cards (they're basically the same thing)|||PCI Express 2.0 Cards are backward compatible with old standard PCI-Express X16 cards, so it will work just fine, it just will not run as fast as it could.

A PCI Express x16 slot, is it compatiable with PCI express x16 2.0/ 2.1 video cards?

I have a 5 year old PC. Would like to get a nice graphic card. Have a PCI express x 16. Problem is I want a very efficient card. Preferiably 2gb or so. I'd like fast memory like ddr5 on it. My PC has ddr2. >:^(-) Just paid over 600 bucks for it like a year ago at walmart. I think I shoulda just built a PC for that price. This thing might have been worth that intially when it came out in 07. Anyways, also was wondering, I have 1 PCI express x 16 slot, and I think 2 regular PCI and 1 PCI express x1 slot. Could I get a pcie x1 card and a pcie x16 card and would they be able to combine theyre performance!? 5 points to the first helpful one! cheers!|||PCIe x16 2.0 is backwards compatible. No, you cannot combine performance of two completely different video cards.|||to answer your question,, only sli compatable graphics cards are capable of combing its power...

Mixing 2 gpu's is likely to cause your registry to corrupt causing a total loss of you OS stabability it has happens to me before ... only current generation high end motherboards are SLI compatable...

If you want true performance video wise look into a tesla GPU and its appropriate board using over a 100 times more power than anything else of its kind...

Theres no need for 2gb n a

a 2 gb graphics gpu is not going to work in a 5 year old pc,, unless the motherboard is able to read more than one gb per allocated slot on the board,, if your running a 64 bit version of windows there shouldnt be much problem,,, and thats only if your power supply unit can sustain the increase in electricity...

but to run a 2 gb gpu on a 32 bit OS you would prolly have to only use 1 gb of ram on the board seeing as 32 bit only allocates a little over 3 gb of ram,, including the dedicated ram on a gpu,,, using a 2 gb gpu and 1 gb of ram is a rediculous concept simular to putting a jet engine in a smart car and expect it to stop on a dime....

Buy a new computer, or a gpu about 512 mb seeing as 512 mb 5 years ago was almost the best you could have

What is the best video card slot is it PCI Express x16?

Yes, as there are many versions out there for graphics, though that one is the best till they come out with a better one.

There are slower versions of pci exress like 8x that work fine, but not as good as 16x. The older style before them was AGP, and before that, PCI, and ISA before that. Anymore, they are all made for pci express 16x.

Would a PCI-E 2.0 card work in a PCI-E x16 slot?

I'm thinking of exchanging a video card (PCI-E x16) with a PCI-E 2.0 x16 card, but here's the thing. My motherboard's PCI-E slot is only 1.0 (x16). Would the new video card work?|||Yes, it will work.

PCI-E 2.0 is designed to be backwards-compatible with PCI-E x16. This means that a video card that is designed for PCI-E 2.0 can also work in a PCI-E x16 slot. Also, a card that is designed to work in a PCI-E x16 slot can also work in a PCI-E 2.0 slot.

I hope this helps!

Is it possible to use a PCI-e 2.1 x16 graphics card in a pci-e 2.0 x16 video card slot, and what are the compy?

PCIe 2.1 x16 is backwards compatible with PCIe 2.0 x16. So to answer your question, yes.|||hi zane

yes no problem.... you can install the newer pci-express v2.1 cards in a v2.0 port without any problems.... they are all backwards compatible so you can actually install a first generation pci-express v1.0 graphics card in a pci-express v2.0 slot....

the only downside though is if you use a v2.1 graphics card in the v2.0 slot then it will only run at the maximum speed associated with the v2.0 slot ( 8 GB/s (64 Gbit/s) ).... and the same would apply if you ran a v2.1 graphics card in a 1st generation v1.0 slot... even though its designed to run at the v2.1 speed ( which is actually the same speed as the v2.0 ) the card would only run at the v1.0 speed which is 4 GB/s (32 Gbit/s)

however zane dont get these speeds mixed up with the memory bandwidth and clock speed on the actual card..... if a card has a 4000mhz ddr effective memory clock speed it will run at that speed in all pci-express x16 slot versions.... and the same applies to the core clock speed and shader clock.... these are specifications of the card and not the pci-express slot

thats why i dont get too picky when it comes to the pci-express slot... obviously i would buy a motherboard with the most up to date pci-express slot however if there was a board with dual pci-express x16 (v2.0) slots and another with a single pci-express (v2.1) i would go with the dual slots running at v2.0.... and i would also look to see how many sata ports it had and the locations of power connectors.....

so i wouldnt worry.... you will have no problems using your v2.1 pci-express x16 graphics card in your v2.0 slot..... and since both the v2.0 and v2.1 pci-express slots have the same per-lane throughput you wont even lose any speed.... the only time you would lose throughput is if you use the v2.1 or v2.0 graphics card in a older pci-express v1.0 slot

i hope this has helped zane, however any questions let me know

good luck mate !|||Every motherboard with a PCI-E x16 slot is compatible with every PCI-E video card.

EDIT: HAHAHAHAHA

vitti93 your years of experience haven't helped you much, you would know the best PCI card is the nvidia 5200FX and it sucks.|||No! 'normal' PCI slots are too slow. It would be ok for old games, perhaps. But not Oblivion...Oblivion is a quite graphical. My AGP card is a bit slow for it. (AGP is faster than PCI)|||yeah theres also a xp patch out for low end video cards that allows it to play on slow machines. I would just search google for it i cant think of the site off the top of my head right now!|||HAHAHA@pci video card for Oblivion!

You're kidding...right?|||Sure there are. Check www.intel.com and see if you can find a decent video card there. If not, try eBay or newegg.com|||Your only option is to upgrade to a pci-e.

There is no point of playing Oblivion without all the eye candy turned on.

I have a PCI-E X16 slot in my computer and I would like to buy a new graphics card?

I have a PCI-E X16 slot in my computer and I would like to buy a new card. I am wondering if this card is compatible with a PCI-E X16 slot Inno3D GT 430 2GB SDDR3 DVI VGA HDMI Out PCI-E Graphics Card. It says PCI-E but I checked a video of someone unboxing it and they mentioned something about PCI-E 2.0, i'm not great with these things but i'm guessing thats not going to work with my computer|||any pcie graphics card will work with any computer as long as it has enough wattage. I would recommend the GTX 460, it might be a little more expensive, but it is a really great card for your money.

Also, if your worried, PCI-e 2.0 cards are backwards compatible with PCIe 1.0 slots and vice versa.

if its a 430, that most likely is a 2.0 pcie card|||When buying a new video card there is one thing you need to look at first and that is your power supply what is the wattage? if you only have a 250w power supply you then you will want to get a video card that uses 150w to have it work correctly.

I have a friend that got a video card that needed 350w and he has a 200w power supply and after hooking everything up it did not work so look at your power supply first.|||Buy ATI 1 gb 1.8. Also ask the vendor if 2.0 pcie is compatible with your mother board model :)

Will a PCI-Express x16 2.0 Card work in a PCI-Express x16 slot?

My motherboard is an ASUS P5N73-AM. It seems to only have a PCI-Express x16 slot, not 2.0. Will a PCI-Express x16 2.0 video card work in my slot? It's a GeForce 8800 GT. I know USB 2.0 devices work in old USB ports, so I was wondering if it's the same concept here.|||yes both versions are compatible with each other|||it is not the same as usb. however it will support the card since they are both x16|||Yh definatly.

Pci-e x16 is the same as the 2.0|||Yes it can but there is no guarantee|||Hey,

yes a PCI-Express x16 2.0 video card work would work in PCI-Express x16 slot.

PCI Express 2.0

PCI-SIG announced the availability of the PCI Express Base 2.0 specification on 15 January 2007.[17] PCIe 2.0 doubles the bus standard's bandwidth from 0.25 GByte/s to 0.5 GByte/s, meaning a ×32 connector can transfer data at up to 16 GByte/s for both videocards (SLI 2×, etc.). PCIe 2.0 has two 32-bit channels for each GPU (2×16), while the first version only has 1×16 and is operating at 2 GHz.

PCIe 2.0 motherboard slots are backward compatible with PCIe v1.x. PCIe 2.0 cards have good backward compatibility, new PCIe 2.0 graphics cards are compatible with PCIe 1.1 motherboards, meaning that they will run on them using the available bandwidth of PCI Express 1.1. Overall, graphic cards or motherboards designed for v 2.0 will be able to work with the other being v 1.1 or v 1.0.

The PCI-SIG also said that PCIe 2.0 features improvements to the point-to-point data transfer protocol and its software architecture.[18]

In June 2007 Intel released the specification of the Intel P35 chipset which does not support PCIe 2.0 only PCIe 1.1.[19] Some people may be confused by the P35 block diagram which states the Intel P35 has a PCIe x16 graphics link (8 GB/s) and 6 PCIe x1 links (500 MB/s each).[20] For simple verification one can view the P965 block diagram which shows the same number of lanes and bandwidth but was released before PCIe 2.0 was finalized. Intel's first PCIe 2.0 capable chipset was the X38 and boards began to ship from various vendors (Abit, Asus, Gigabyte) as of October 21, 2007.[21] AMD started supporting PCIe 2.0 with its RD700 chipset series and nVidia started with the MCP72.[22] The specification of the Intel P45 chipset includes PCIe 2.0.

How do check if my computer can run a PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card?

How can I check if I have a PCI Express 2,0 x16 slot?|||Any PCI-E 2.0 video card is backward compatible with earlier versions. So, yes you can use it. (you have a PCI-E x 16 slot) It will just default to the slower version. But your power supply will be over-taxed if you get too powerful of a card. That usually will result in the computer shutting down, or re-booting. Or killing the PSU.

The Dell Inspiron 530 only has a 300W power supply. So, find a video card that doesn't require an extra cable to power it. If it gets all its power off the PCI-E slot, your PSU will probably handle it. Here's a suggestion below...

Your E6550 will not 'bottleneck' the HD 5570. And you'll be able to play most games at medium settings at 1680x1050 resolution and lower.|||will first off its a Dell Inspiron and secondly your computer is outdated anyways you motherboard supports pci express x16 not 2.0. you could run a video card on it but youll have a bottleneck effect.

You really need to open your case and check for any brand name on your motherboard and also look for any #'s and do a search for what type of slot you have exactly.... Research before you buy...|||eew... that card is a _terrible_ rip off! You should be able to get one of those for under $150. A 4850 would be a much better buy. If you are planning on spending that amount, get a 4870 - waaaaay more power than the 8800gts.

you need to know what your slot type is. if your machine is less than 4 years old it will probably be pci-e. if your machine is more than 4 years old, it may be agp. If you are really unlucky, it will be pci.

your motherboard manual will tell you what the slot type is.

If you dont have a manual you can google the motherboard model and it will tell you.

If you dont know the model number and dont have a manual then use http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php then look at mainboard-graphics

You need to know what your power supply capacity is. Low-end cards need 350watts or more. Mid range cards need 450 watts or more. High range and multi gpu will need considerably higher capacity power supplies.

Once you know these aspects, its really just a matter of deciding on your budget. You generally get what you pay for with gpu's.

Why won't the drivers for my new pci-express video card work?

I recently purchased a FOXCONN 8400GS-256 GeForce 8400 GS 256MB GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card.

When i installed it it took almost 5 min for vista to boot up normally with my old pci card in was 10 sec and then when i went to install the drivers included in the cd it won't work. i went to fox conns website and downloaded all of the vista 32 bit drivers i could find and none of them worked. the nvidia screen came up and said no hardware was found that needed to be installed. i went to nvidia's website and downloaded their drivers and it still didn't work. then i upgraded my chipset drivers from asus becasue when i went to the device manager it lists like 10 differently pci-pci bridge issues.

this is the second pci-e card i have tried without success and similar issues. can anyone help.|||did you uninstall your previous drivers first?.

Thanks!|||The best graphics card on the market at the moment is the ATi HD 4870x2

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…|||I'm not sure what currency of $500 but here in Australia you can get a quality ATi 4870 card.

The ATi 4870 is the fastest 512MB single card available on the market. (The 1GB version is pretty awesome too) The NVidia equivalent would be the 260 or 280 although only the 260 is under $500 Aus.

I'd go with the 4870 as the catalyst control centre <which comes with it> lets you overclock the graphics card if you have sufficient cooling quite easily.. (So it has some extra life).

Is an 8800GT video card still the best card if you don't have PCI Express x16 2.0?

If my motherboard doesn't have PCI Express x16 2.0 will an 8800GT still be a good card? I mean, if all the data bandwidth, stream processors, and other advantages of 2.0 are removed, would it still be good, or should I go with a cheaper x16 card that will have the same performance as an 8800GT in a 1.1 slot?|||No granted the 8800GT's performance won't be at top notch, as it would if it were in a PCI-E 2.0 slot, but many users have stated they didn't notice the difference. Gamers around here do not either. Whether that's ignorance on our part, or what have you, the 8800GT does the job. I really recommend the 8800GT even with a PCI-E 1.1 version expansion slot.

Does a PCI Express x16 Video Card go in an AGP slot?

I want to upgrade my videocard, but don't see any video cards marked as working in an AGP slot on newegg.com. Does PCI express x16 mean AGP slot?|||NO. For a PCI Express X16 video card, get a computer with a PCI Express slot. If you HAVE a computer with an AGP 4X/8X slot, then look for an AGP 4X/8X card.

If you have an AGP 2X/4X slot, then get an AGP 2X/4X card. You really have to LOOK at the socket and connectors on the card if you don't know.

Visit http://www.newegg.com and look for AGP video. Then ZOOM IN on the pictures. You will notice that some connectors have TWO sections of contacts, and others have THREE sections. You might even have to refer to your computer or motherboard manual and check the SPECIFICATIONS.

Good luck and Happy Computing!|||When you go to NewEgg, type video card agp in the search box and hit SEARCH. Here is just one example. (but not necessarilly recommended) http://www.newegg.com/Product/…

|||No, PCI-E has a different number of pins and length. You can not install a PCI-E card in an AGP slot. New eggs has a lot of AGP cards but they tend to be more expensive due to being older technology. Start you search here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis…|||No. PCI is PCI and AGP is AGP. It won't fit.|||NO!!

AGP was the standard for video cards.

The NEW standard is PCI express slots.

IF you going to upgrade, check out a new motherboard with PCIe slots, they don't make motherboard with AGP slots anymore.

Good luck|||No AGP is an older slot, there is a tool you can download called CruicalScan it will tell you what cards are compatible with AGP, be aware that these cards aren't as good as ones built for PCI-Express slots.

I would recommend upgrading your motherboard to one with a PCI Express x16 slot.

What is the difference between PCI-ex 2.0 x16 and PCI-ex x16 bus?

if i get video card compatible with PCI-ex x16 bus. . .would it be compatible with 2.0 bus or both?|||Yes, (like other people have said) they are backward-compatible, but if you get 2.0, usually you don't want to put it in a PCI-ex x16 (1.0) bus because you would lose a lot of power that you can't take advantage of. Hope that helps.

I suggest you look at the video(from youtube) in the sources in my answer if you wanna know more about video cards.|||Yes, quick answer: version 1.0 has less bandwidth than 2.0 but they are compatible.|||Yes, it would work. If you bought a 2.0 card though, it must be backward compatible to work with an older slot.

Will a low profile video card fit into my hp pavillion slimline s7320n?

I am currently interested in purchasing a JATON Video-PX8400GS_EX GeForce 8400 GS 512MB 64-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 Low Profile Video Card for my Hp Pavillion Slimline s7320n. Will this graphics card work and fit in my pc?|||also be careful of the power of the card... its a pain getting a new powersupply for a slimline.|||low pro cards usually come with the standard slot that you can swap out.

the card itself will fit, the slot covering that you screw it into the case might be a problem, so see if the box comes with the standard slot.

Can I use a PCI Express 2.0 video card with my Asus IP-95 MOBO?

I was just wondering if I can use a card with PCIe 2.0 on my motherboard which I got about a year and a half ago. It says it has PCI Express and PCI Express x16, I wanted to upgrade from my nVidia 7600GT to a 9600GT and do not know if I can. |||You mean an Abit IP-95 motherboard (not Asus)?

In theory, this should work. Some possible issues:

- There was a known problem with some Via chipset motherboards and the 8800gt due to compatibility issues with the PCI-E 1.0a interface on the motherboard. This may be fixed in the 9600gt, but I'm not completely sure about this.

- Make sure that your power supply has the needed power (the 9600gt is a bit more power hungry than the 7600gt) and connectors (the 9600gt needs a 6-pin PCI-E power connector or use 2 4-pin molex connectors and an adaptor) and that your case has enough room.

XFX GeForce 7300GS 256MB DDR2 PCI Express x16 Video Card ( S-Video DVI VGA ) - PVT72GWANG support window vista

does this card support windows vista premium and is it a good card? I have a amd 4000+ x2 processor with 1gb ram 350gb hd . will it be good enough to play CS SOURCE or need for speed most wanted at excellent graphics?? PLEASE HELP THANKS!!|||you can use it with vista sure. However, the 7300 is not really a "perfomance" card so it might not be able to run cs:s on max settings (with aa turned up and all) Plus, most cards will take a 30%-50% performance hit just by using the vista drivers. (it might only be the directx10 cards?) I would try and get at least the 7600 gs if you want to game. Or, try the 8600gt as it is fairly cheap now. (got mine for $110) For nvidia cards, the first number designates the series and the second number designates design and purpose. 8500 = 8xxx series for business app. While the 8800 = 8xxx series performance gaming. So the 7300 would be 7xxx for entry-level app, not really gaming.

Does a pci express x16 video card work on a pci express x8 slot? And if does is the Inno 8400/8500 work?

Yes, a PCI-express x16 card will fit in a PCI-e x8 slot. PCI-express x8 slots are usually the same length as the PCI-e x16 slot so the card will physically fit. The only thing is the PCI-e x16 car will not run at its full speed. Other than that, the card will work 100% perfectly.

And yes again, a PCI-e x16 Inno 8400/8500 will work just fine. If you can, I suggest going for the 8500. It is the slightly faster of the two.

Good luck!

PCI-E x16 and PCI-E x1video card slots?

If you only have (1) PCI-E x16, andone PCI-E x1 Slot on your motherboard, how can you stack 2 PCI-E video cards and get the same capability on them?

Dual Monitor Video Cards

http://www.superwarehouse.com/Dual_Monit…|||It seems you want to make dual card rendering or SLI...

You must have SLI capable mainboard and SLI graphic card..

you cannot use two different type of graphic card (PCI-E and AGP)...

PCI-E x1 is not for graphic card it's for something else..|||Wanna try SLI/Crossfire??

well u *cant* install *2* video cards in *1* slot......its obvious!!

Though u can get 2 in 1 video cards which have serious power AND price

SLI is a technology by nvidia which can connect 2 cards to each other and double up the power.......ofcourse this requires 2 PCI slots and 2 identical video cards....then it'll work

Crossfire is the same thing accept it's from ATi.

and the board sud support crossfire/SLI

other wise no use using 2 video cards|||PCI-Express is the new technology being adopted and developed by motherboard producers.

The first generation had a speed of 8x of that of the AGP slot. AGP slots and PCI-E slots are different by the way which means that if you have a motherboard that supports PCI-E slots for a 3rd party video card then you must buy a video card that supports the PCI-E design otherwise if you have a video card that has the AGP slot design then it won't fit and wouldn't work in the first place.

The second generation PCI-E design has 16x speed of that of the AGP slot technology. This is the current mainstream design being used today by leading video card manufacturers.

Now, regarding your question about using 2 video cards... You must have a motherboard that supports the SLI technololgy (by NVIDIA video cards) and or the Crossfire technology (by ATI Radeon video cards). These technology/design allows a user to have 2 video cards (usually of the same model) working together to double the performance of what a single video card can do. Motherboards that support the SLI/Crossfire technology have 2 PCI-E x16 slots where 2 PCI-E video cards (with the same model and maker and supports SLI or Crossfire) are inserted and connected.

Try these sites to learn more about SLI/Crossfire technology.

Do NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M PCI Express x16 a good video card for gaming?

Hi,

The Quadro FX 570M is at the bottom end of nVidia's mid range mobile workstation graphics offerings.

See:

http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadrofx_fami…

It will run some of the older less demanding games but it will struggle to run the newer graphically demanding games.

Quadro cards are more expensive than GeForce cards as they are optimised for graphics quality and stability as used in CAD/Graphics applications, rather than high frame rates.

If you only want to run games, you would be better off better off spending the same money on a computer with a GeForce graphics chipset, then you would get better gaming performance for your money.|||the quadro series is for workstation graphics. workstation graphics cards are HORRIBLE for gaming|||That card is not designed for gaming.

Will my motherboard support a PCI Express 2.1 x16 video card?

Here is a link with everything you need to know about my motherboard. I just need to know if it will support a pci 2.1 card

Version 2.1 cards work in all PCI-E x16 slots, regardless of version number. And for cards below the $350 mark, there isn't any performance difference because they don't exceed the bandwidth limit of the original PCI-E x16 spec.

Of course higher-end cards require more power, so you'd need to replace HP's 250 watt power supply to run anything more powerful than a Radeon HD 6450 or GeForce GT 520.

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Zotac…|||Yes..:

1 PCI Express x16 slot for graphics card

Even if it's only PCIe 1.1, it'll be the same as PCIe 2.1 x8, and you won't notice any drop in performance unless it's a very powerful card ($300+).|||Your motherboard will, but if you have the stock power supply it probably won't.|||yes 100 %

i am also using AMD HD 6450 pci 2.1 x16 video card on PCI Express x16 slot

Do current PCI Express 2.0 video cards perform better than comparable PCI Express x16 cards?

I just got an Asus P5E3 Deluxe motherboard (with wifi) and I'm trying to decide on a video card; preferably something in the GeForce 8800 series.

Right now I'm looking at an EVGA 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit card, which is not PCI-E 2.0, just PCI-E x16. From what I've seen, the cards with the PCI-E 2.0 interface don't have specs as good as many of the PCI-E x16 cards.

Am I better off going with a faster PCI-E x16 video card rather than a card with the newer PCI-E 2.0 interface (even though my motherboard supports 2.0)? Not only do the cards with the 2.0 interface have lower specs, but they are more expensive. Is this just because it's new technology, or is there a noticeable difference in performance?|||a faster PCI-E X16 card will be faster than a PCI-E 2.0 card with lower specs, but many PCI-E 2.0 cards are cheaper than the 8800 GTS 640 (like the 8800 GT) and are more powerful.|||PCI-E 2.0 was for the most part a change in the signaling method to allow for higher data transfer rates on the PCI-E bus.

For video cards for example, this allows SLI and Crossfire configurations to take advantage of two 16x PCI-E slots that can now, with PCI-E 2.0, actually run in full 16x mode. With PCI-E 1.1, when SLI or Crossfire technology was enabled, both 16x plugs would be reduced to 8x speed. PCI-E 2.0 has removed this barrier, and also allows all other PCI-E 2.0 ports (1x, 4x, 8x, and 16x) to attain speeds up to double the speeds achieved in PCI-E 1.1.

To read more about PCI-E 2.0 you can go here:

http://www.pcisig.com/news_room/faqs/pcie2.0_faq/

At current however, there is no video card or video cards that truly take advantage of the bandwidth PCI-E 2.0 makes available. However I can explain the price difference to you when it comes to the older PCI-E 1.1 cards, and the newer PCI-E 2.0 cards I believe.

Most of NVidia's older 8xxx series cards that use the old PCI-E 1.1 slot are based on the G80 or variations of the G80 graphics chips. The G80 is multiple times the size of the new G92 chips, runs hotter than the new G92 chips, and is also more expensive to produce than the G92 chips. With the switch to the new G92 chips, most NVidia products also made a switch to the PCI-E 2.0 bus in preparation for future hardware. In this case, you could call the G80 chips the stepping stones from which the G92 chips were created.

By only looking at specs (I'm guessing you're refering to clock speeds, memory speeds, pipeline counts, etc), you're missing half of the picture. I'd suggest you also look at the results (benchmarks, power consumption tests, noise tests, etc) before making your decision.

I would suggest checking with Tom's Hardware Guide and Anandtech for these reviews, they've never let me down yet:

http://www.tomshardware.com/us/

http://www.anandtech.com/

The EVGA 8800GTS 640MB card that you are looking at is based off of the older G80 chipset (I have one myself, I was one of the early adopters), however this card has since fell by the wayside of superior G92 based cards which both out perform it, and are cheaper or equal to it in price. For example, the Geforce 8800GT 512MB, the Geforce 8800GTS 512MB, and if you're willing to spend another 100 dollars or so, the Geforce 9800GTX 512MB.

To answer your question, no, these cards do not perform faster because of PCI-E 2.0. They perform faster because they are actually superior hardware. There aren't currently any cards that truly make use of the bandwidth made available to them by PCI-E 2.0.

As for price:

EVGA Geforce 9800GTX 512MB PCI-E 2.0 - $330

EVGA Geforce 8800GTS 512MB PCI-E 2.0 - $260

* EVGA Geforce 8800GTS 640MB PCI-E 1.1 - $230

EVGA Geforce 8800GT 512MB PCI-E 2.0 - $210

* The card you are considering.

(All prices were grabbed from the lowest costing EVGA cards of each type on Newegg.com.)

Considering how much the cards above cost, and by how much they out perform the card you're considering, the card you're suggesting is actually the expensive one.

I wish you good luck and happy shopping!|||atm theres no difference between 2.0 and regular however dont get the 8800gts 640mb. even the 8800GT beats the 8800gts 640. if you want the 8800GTS get teh 512mb (g92) dont get the 320 or 640 as they are not good at all.

Video card connected to mobo pci-e x16 running at x4?

Hi, i've a 8800gts connected to a mobo w/ a pci-e x16 slot running at x4 maximum (p5vdc-x) is this somehow causing a performance "bottleneck" or hindering my performance? if this is so, im changing boards. Please help...|||http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l…

Because your motherboard also has an AGP slot the PCIe implementation was made that way.

Budget and slower mainstream cards would have no problem w/ that x4 PCIe. BUT it will bottleneck high-end cards like the 8800GTS. Run 3D Mark 05 or 06. If your scores are way below these, your card is getting bottlenecked:

http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews.php?t…

Take note that an overclocked C2Duo set up was used to rule out any bottlenecking that may be caused by the processor.

For reference, 11,650 marks in 3D Mark 05 or 5,550 marks in 3D Mark 06 is typical for the next lower series 8600GTS.|||No, it won't hinder your performance. Video card can't barely saturate the 4x slot let alone the 16x.

Can i put a pci express 2.0 x16 in a pci express x16 slot?

I am planning on getting a new computer, and it has a pci express x16 slot, but i don't know if they are backwards compatible from the video card to the slot, or from the slot to the card...anyone know about this?|||nope, for one thing, it would be backwards, some pci express 2.0 have backwards compatability with pci express, but it won't work the other way around|||All future PCI-E x16's will be backwards compatible with the old x16 1.0 but you won't be getting the full bang for your buck.

Will a PCI Express 2.0 video card work on my Gigabyte GA-M61SME-S2 motherboard?

If it won't, what video card would you suggest me to buy, coz I was considering gf 9500gt or 9800gt .. But it uses PCIe 2.0. And if I'm right, my motherboard has somethin' like PCIe x16 / x8.. Thanx in advance,, :)|||You can use any PCI-Express x16 video card in your motherboard and it will be compatible. However, your motherboard's PCI-Express slot has only 1/4 of the bandwidth most modern motherboards slots have. For a low-end graphics card like those you are considering, this won't make any measurable difference. So you won't have any motherboard compatibility issues.

I'm guessing your budget is around $80. At that price point, your best is probably a Radeon HD5670 or a 9800 GTX+.|||Your board supports PCI Express x16(with PCI Express x8 mode). Fortunately the PCI Express specification allows for forward/backward compatibility (wiki link below).|||The best way for you to do this is look up your motherboard specifications online and see if your slots will support your PCIe Graphic cards if not you will not be able to do it. To find what type of motherboard you have is press windows key R type in dxdig go to System Information, System Manufacturer/System Model and just type your motherboard model into google and see if it will support it.|||Nope, doesn't have PCi 2.0 support. If you want any decent graphics cards, i'd seriously consider upgrading the MOBO. Newer boards with PCI 2 support can be picked up quite cheap ^^|||Generally PCI-express cards and slots are backwards compatible. A PCI-E 2.0 card will most always run in a PCI-E 1.0 slot. However, the card will only run up to the throughput of the 1.0 slot.

I suspect that board is at PCI-E 1.0.|||http://www.downloadatoz.com/driver/downl…

Good Luck!

If i connect a Radeon 5830 video card on an Asus P5k motherboard will it work properly?

I have an Asus P5K motherboard with 3 PCI, 2 PCI-E x1, 2 PCI-E x16 slots and i was wondering if the 5830 video card will work with no problems at ful potential.|||yes. But other comp resources are required to use some apps such as minimum processor and so on. But the vid card will work fine.

PCI-E 2.0 Video Card work on PCI-E 1.1 slot and Direct X 9?

I was wondering will a SAPPHIRE Toxic Radeon HD 4890 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card work on a PCI-E 1.1 or 1.0 slot and with Direct X9.0c?

My motherboard is a: Gigabyte GA-K8N-SLI Pro

Video Card wanting to replace is a: Sapphire Radeon 1950XTX 512MB.

Want to replace video card with:SAPPHIRE Toxic Radeon HD 4890 1GB.

Video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Motherboard: http://www.giga-byte.com/Products/Mother…

Operating System: Windows XP Pro SP3

Direct X: 9.0c

Some people say it will work no problems, but I want to be sure. First decent answer with proof get's a automatic 10 stars.|||You can use one single HD4890 card on that motherboard no problems... But why put an ATI card on an nVidia SLI motherboard? It kind of defeats the purpose of buying that SLI motherboard in the first place.

Remember SLI only works with two nVidia cards, not ATI.

Anyway, PCIExpress 2.0 video cards are completely compatible with PCIExpress 1.0 slots. The only time PCIExpress 2.0 cards will max out the bandwidth of a PCIe 1.0 slot is if you got two or more high-end cards running in SLI or Crossfire.|||I've heard of problems with PCIe 2.0 on this board.

See this thread:

http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewtopi…

Then again, the guy that started that thread had problems with Nvidia not ATI.

What kind of video card can i put in a 1xPCI Express x16, 2x PCI Express x1, 1x PCI slots?

I am building a basic dell inpiron 546 computer with a AMD Athlon™ II X3 425 (2.7GHz, 1.5MB) and the integrated graphics i am going to upgrade the graphics and add ram to have atleast 4 gb. what kind of video card would be good with this build? not too expesnive maybe between 100-150. not crazy gamer but play WOW and COD4 and left for dead 2.|||The PCI Express x16 will fit any card. I recommend you go with either the ATI Radeon HD 4870 or the nVidia GTX 260. Both are close to your price range, but worth it. Otherwise, go with the HD 4850 or GTS 250, both of which reside around $100.|||I agree with The Teller. I have an ATI Radeon HD4850, it works like a charm..but the niVidia GTS also works wonders. look at here for a comparison guide

Will a pci express x16 card fit into a pci express 2.0 x16 slot?

I have a Zotac GeForce 8500 GT video card and I'm trying to find a new motherboard and I was wondering if my video card would fit into a pci express 2.0 x16 slot.|||yea that's called backward compatibility

so you can fix PCI -E x16 (1.1 ) Card to 2.0 slot or vise versa.!

but I have no idea about PCI-E x16 1.0 (ONLY! 1.1v)|||Yes it will.

PCIe2.0 is just a PCIe with double the bandwidth, meaning that it can transfer information at faster speeds. The old, non 2.0 card will fit on the slot and work just fine.|||pci-expressx16 and pci-expressx16 2.0 are

the same thing.2.0 is

version of pci-express

slot.much like 1.0,1.1

and latest 2.1.all are

of equal length and

backward compatible

with each other.so

you can use any pci-e

2.0 card with pci-e 1.1

and so on.2.0 increases the bandwidth over 1.0.

any cheap mobo with

1 pci-ex16 slot will

take your 8500GT.

NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Video Card..... with 512MB DDR2 Ram, x16 PCI?

My pc is an Intel pentium III 1ghz with built in 32 mb intel graphics card

Can I make a huge difference in my PCś gameplay, By installing a nVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS Video Card with 512MB DDR2 Ram, x16 PCI Express??

please help|||Yes the card would make a difference, but you should really up the processor. A 1Ghz P3 processor is not strong enough to push todays games. Go for at least a core duo if you want good gameplay,|||As the person above said, the CPU (Processor) will bottleneck your GPU (Video Card).

Being a pentium III, you probably can't upgrade much though unless you were to build a new PC, and I doubt you even are able to have a PCI Express card in your PC because of it's age. You probably need an AGP or PCI card.

PCI E x16 video card slot?

i bought a pci e x16 video card yesterday and i tried to put it in but there wasnt enough room to put it in...the card was too big...are all pci e x16 cards that big or what do i need to do? btw it is a pci e x16 slot it would fit fine but the metal part on the end of the card takes up too much room|||No, they are not all that long.

You probably have an 8800 or 9800 series card.

Tell us what inside your tower is blocking the card ... if it's a hard drive you may be able to displace it.

regards,

Philip T|||Something must be in the way. Se if one of the brackets which hold it in are still pushed down from your previous card. If everything is clear, make sure the card does not have any defect etc. because the PCI-E x16 port may have been affected.

Whats the difference between a PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card and a PCI Express x16 video card?

Can I use a PCI Express 2.0 x16 video card on my PCI Express x16 mother-board ?...I have Dual NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GT SLI Enabled video cards...and im looking to up-grade my video cards|||2.0 video cards will take advantage of the double bandwidth used in 2.0 pci-e slots.

Any PCI Express card will work in any PCI Express slot, given that the physical dimensions match.|||Most PCIe x16 slots are version 2.0, and your graphics card certainly is a PCIe x16 2.0 card.

So you can use your 8600 GT.

Some cards use the newer version (PCIe x16 2.1), but they will work with the older and more common version 2.0 slots as well.

Can i use both a pci express x16 and a standard pci video card together?

My primary video card is an nvidia geforce 9400gt (pci express x16), it has 2 monitors attached to it. Can i use this card along with it and be able to hook up a 3rd monitor?:

I think there's some cards out there that can support more than 2 monitors however they're expensive. Compare some on Newegg to get specs and figure out if it's worth it or not.

Is a PCI Express x1 Video/Graphics Card really worth it?

I made a really dumb mistake of buying a cheap $400 Desktop that only came with a PCI Express x1 and x16 slot, and not 2.0 x16. As I've learned, there are few cards for these two slots available, and they aren't top of the line in any means. Though I have found 1gb cards such as:

http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.asp…

I'm afraid I'm no computer techie, though I know a good share of knowledge. I've read that the PCIE x1 slots transfer data at a much slower speed.

So the question is, should I get this until I get a job and enough money to build my own PC? I just want to play Stalker without making it look like something out of the late 90s (i.e. with fully rendered lighting). Do you think this could be a good substitute?|||What are you saying, most of the cards out there in the market is for PCI Express X16 slots. and really it doesn't matter as of not by X16 1.1 or 2.0. Almost all the cards present in market arn't able to use X16 2.0's power. Most But not all. so stick with the motherboard it isn't that bad and get a good graphic card to play games, you don't need to worry much about rendering( i suppose) unless you are buying two cards for Sli or crossfire, you won't need two X16 slots. Good luck with your Gpu and S.T.A.L.K.E.R|||Well if you have a VGA card connected to the PCI-E 16x slot, what you could do is replace it with a good/average VGA card.

2 PCI-E slots will only come into play, only if you're planning to CROSSFIRE or SLI i.e. connect two VGA cards and connect them together to get a single output. But in order to do that you need to have two similar models which supports the feature. Since you have a 1x slot I wouldn't recommend you doing that.|||It fits perfectly in an HP Pavilion Slim, it's definitely worth paying it's ... work station and there is no PCI-E 16x only PCI-E 1x so it was either use the really ... I'm using this video card in my file server since my old PCI vid card died on me. ... 5.0 out of 5 stars Only a few PCI Express x1 cards available! ...
