PCI Express x16 and PCI Express 2.0 video cards?

I was wondering if it was possible for PCI Express 2.0 video cards such as the GeForce 8800GTS and the Radeon HD 3870 to be able to run on PCI Express x16 motherboards? I'm not sure if i need to get a new motherboard or not...I've never actually heard of PCIe 2.0 until a few days ago while looking for a new card. Please help me!|||Top person is wrong-

PCI-E 2.0 cards are completely compatible with PCI-E 1.

Any PCI-E 2.0 card works on any PCI-E 1 slot (as long as your slot is X16)|||2.0 is on the bleeding edge of the video card market. most motherboards do not support 2.0 as of now. so to answer your question, most likely no, your motherboard wont support the geforce 8800gts. just find a regular x16 pci-e card, there's tons of them and relatively cheap for the performance. there is a nice one for 90 dollars on new egg, Nvidia. 550 mhz core clock, 1400 memory clock XD.|||I second the second person's answer.
