yes mate, this will actually play some of the latest games on low resolutions
as for light gaming and hd-dvd,s there shouldnt be a problem
however remember the HD2400pro has just a v.g.a and a d.v.i port at the back, but it does have a HDTV connector and is also HDCP Compliant
this is the bottom of the HD radeon range of direct x 10 cards,a better investment would be to spend a few more quid and get a 256MB Asus HD 2600 PRO PCI-E(x16)(http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductIn…
this has a 128bit bus compared to the 64bit in the 2400,and with a core clock of 600mhz and 256mb of gddr2 memory running at 1000mhz this is a much better performer, even when watching dvd,s and hd-dvd
graphic cards are one of the pieces of hardware we buy for our p.c were its best buying better, cheap graphic cards are normally inferior in specifications and only have low specs, making it easy for manufacturers to sell them so cheap
go for at least mid range, remember the graphics denote what you see when you use your p.c,you dont want a rubbish image in front of you every day, spend that little more and enjoy
good luck mate !|||Its like every new game that comes out Your card needs to be updated But if your only playing older games then you should be ok In a few years time the new games that come on the market will be ten times biger But yes that card is ok|||That card is fine for sims 2. You could get away with a cheaper card in fact.|||The HD 2400 is a decend card for the money but there are better cards for a little more. If you like ATI, there is the HD 2600 that should be a little more money (about $30). However, the HD 3850 is about $200 and is far better then both the 2400 and 2600. If you can afford $250-300, you can get the ATI 3870, another good card.
With nVidia, 8800 GT or greater are good cards. However, you will be paying much more for these cards (starting at $300+).
The only thing that I would recommend is that you get a card with 512mb ram. This is the new requirement for video cards as many of the new games require lots of ram on the cards to perform great.
