I have a motherboard that has three PCI express 2.0 slots. Since the two video cards are pretty big, I want to space them out and put them one PCI express 2.0 slot away from each other. Will it affect my performance if I do this?
My motherboard expansion slot:
PCI Express 2.0 x16 3 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 (at x16/x16/x4 mode)
This is my motherboard:

You see, the thing is, most have two ports side by side, so when using more than 3 or 4 cards, you have to chain them together.|||when you put your cards in sli the second one will prolly kick into 8x, with your board if you put it in the 3rd it will kick it to 4x so yeah you will see a hit but if your runnin sli you wont need to worry about that too much unless you are picky about every drop of performance
