What's the point of the PCI-E X1 slot (NOT THE X16). Do any cards even use it? or does it just take up space?

Is there anything useful that uses the PCI-E x1 slot (I know the X16 is for video cards and such), or is it just hogging valuable space on my motherboard?|||Thats one of the most important slots for HTPCs due to use of tv tuner card :P|||sound cards, nics, and some graphics cards use the pci slots.|||well obviously it does have a reason, some sound cards and peripheral cards use it
