Does a video card with a pci_e2.0 port have to go into the second pci_e slot?

i want a graphics card that has a pci_e2.0 x16 port. But the only x16 slot i have is the first pci_e slot. Will it work?|||Nope. You MIGHT have two PCI x16 slots (for if you want to run SLI/Crossfire) but most only have one (the first). The first is guaranteed to work the best (as long as the board supports PCIe). Additional ones are bonus but purely optional depending on the model. Either way, there definitely wouldn't be any advantage of putting it into the second over the first if you indeed have two - and it likely is the much slower PCI anyways rather than additional PCIe.|||No, PCIe 2.0 is a VERSION of that slot (faster than 1.0 and 1.1)...

You generally want to put your video card into the highest slot it will fit.

Which sounds like would be slot 1 for you.|||No. It can go into the first slot. The first slot is usually the less restrictive slot. The second, 3rd or 4th pci_e2.0 slots are usually slower anyways.|||go back where you bought and explain to them they will give the answer and exchange the card sorry I couldn't help but that what I would do
