Is a motherboard with PCI Express x16 compatible with a video card that has PCI Express 2.0 or 2.1 x16?

Upgrading computer and needing to know which I should upgrade, my motherboard or my video card or both.|||Yes, the whole PCI-E series' buses from v1.0 to 2.1 are all inter-compatible. However, since PCI-E 2.0 carries more electricity than PCI-E 1.0. Putting a PCI-E 2.0/2.1 video card in a PCI-E 1.0 slot may require you giving more power to the video card via a 6 pin power connector, an 8 pin power connector, or both, depending on the card.|||Yes,

PCI Express 2.0 is reverse compatible and you can use the Regular x16 slot on your motherboard for a PCI Express 2.0 video card or the traditional x16 card.|||The cards are backwards compatible, with the slots.
